  • DOE to test warning sirens on Wednesday

    The U.S. Department of Energy’s public warning siren system will be tested today, Jan. 4, in areas surrounding the department’s Oak Ridge Reservation.

    The sirens will be tested between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. People in these areas during the test will hear a siren for 3-5 minutes.

    The sirens are near DOE’s East Tennessee Technology Park, Y-12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

  • Tigers close 2011 with split

    The Rockwood Tigers and Lady Tigers finished play in the 2011 Harriman Christmas Classic Friday by splitting a pair of games.

    The Lady Tigers took the floor first and dropped a 44-38 decision against Oneida. 

  • Lady Waves capture Jon Loden Classic title

    The Midway Lady Green Wave closed out 2011 in style Friday night as Amy Woody’s squad captured the 2011 Jon Loden Holiday Classic championship with a 54-47 victory over Sweetwater.

  • Banquet honors RHS Tigers

    A large crowd turned out to honor the 2011 Rockwood High School football team last month at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, sponsored by the Rockwood Rotary Club, Chris Ahler, president. Kenneth Clayton, former RHS player and graduate was the guest speaker, J. Polk Cooley was the M.C. and Coach John Webb presented awards to the various members of the RHS Tiger team. Special awards were given out as follows:
    Smokey Kirk Memorial Awards were given to four seniors who played for the Rams: Gunnar Mitchell, Everett Campbell, Jonathan Andrews and Ethan Hedrick.

    Despite the Harriman Lady Blue Devils best efforts, their winless streak stretched on after a tough 40-37 loss to the Oneida Lady Indians.

  • Lady Waves reach Jon Loden Classic title game

    In the wildest game of the 2011 Jon Loden Holiday Classic at Midway High School, the host Lady Waves advanced to the championship game following a 62-55 victory over Grace Christian Academy in Thursday’s semifinals.
    Midway’s boys also picked up a victory on Thursday, as the Green Wave knocked off Oakdale, 60-43, in a loser’s bracket contest.
    While Thursday was a good day for the host school, Midway’s neighbor to the north, Kingston, suffered a 59-41 loss at the hands of Sequoyah in another semifinal contest.
