  • Muddy Tigers shutout Wartburg

    Despite less-than-desirable field conditions, the Rockwood Tigers managed to escape from Wartburg with a 14-0 win over the Bulldogs.

    “I think, considering the field conditions tonight, our kids played really well,” Rockwood head coach John Webb said.

    Wartburg started off the game with an excellent kick-off return getting into Rockwood territory. However, the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize as they fumbled the ball back to Rockwood.

  • Tigers down Devils, 35-7

    Powered by a huge second half, the Rockwood Tigers secured an automatic berth in the TSSAA Class AA playoffs Friday night with a 35-7 victory at Harriman.

    Rockwood and Harriman were tied 7-7 at halftime, but John Webb's Tigers opened the second half with an eight-play, 65-yard scoring drive and the rest was history.

  • RMS opens season with wins

    Believe it or not, but basketball season tipped off Monday evening in Morgan County as Oakdale hosted the annual Hollis Eble Middle School Tournament.

    Rockwood was one of four teams competing Monday and the news was good for the Tigers and Lady Tigers as both rolled to first round wins. The Lady Tigers rolled to a 31-13 victory over Sunbright in the first game of the evening and Rockwood's boys picked up a 46-33 victory over Sunbright in the final game of the night.

  • Bobcats wrap up playoff berth

    After missing out on the playoffs for three straight years, the Oliver Springs Bobcats will finally get a taste of postseason play as Wiley Brackett's squad wrapped up an automatic berth in the TSSAA Class AA playoffs Thursday night with a 42-14 victory at Wartburg.

    Oliver Springs also ran their season record to 7-2 Thursday and that's two more wins than the combined five the Bobcats amassed from 2006-08.

  • Tigers to Midway, 28-6

    The Rockwood Tigers kept their hopes of earning an automatic berth to the TSSAA playoffs alive Thursday night with a 28-6 victory over Midway at Civitan Field.

    Rockwood entered Thursday's game against the Green Wave knowing victories in their final three games against Midway, Bledsoe County and Harriman would give them a shot at the No. 2 seed in District 3-A and an automatic postseason berth while a loss would leave the Tigers needing a wild-card spot.

  • RMS finishes perfect regular season

    The Rockwood Middle School Tigers put together their best performance of the season Thursday night as Scott Harvey's squad finished off an 8-0 regular season with a 36-0 victory over Cherokee at Civitan Field.

    "It feels really good," Tiger head coach Scott Harvey said after finishing off the perfect regular season. "I think it's been since 2003 since we've been county champs and had a season this good."

  • Harriman downs Tellico Plains, 17-13

    Call it improbable, call it unlikely, even call it putting a spell on Tellico Plains, but the Harriman Blue Devils knocked around the favored Tellico Plains Bears en route to a 17-13 win that should silence any doubters questioning whether this Blue Devil team is for real.

  • District showdowns tonight

    The second half of the 2009 high school football season starts Friday night for Roane County's five football teams and it will be a big night for all five as every team from Roane County is involved in a district contest.

    Kingston has the toughest test of any of Roane County's teams as the Yellow Jackets host five-time defending state champion Alcoa in a District 4-AA contest.

    The Roane County team with perhaps the easiest task is Oliver Springs as the Bobcats host Jellico in a District 4-A match-up.

  • Harriman drills Jellico, 33-0

    After opening the season with four straight games decided by seven points or less, the Harriman Blue Devils finally had a breather Monday night as Travis Tapp's squad picked up a 33-0 victory over Jellico at Wallace Black Field.

    Harriman was dominant on both sides of the ball Monday as the Blue Devils amassed 404 yards of total offense on 61 plays while allowing Jellico only 46 total yards. About the only thing that stood between the Devils and a perfect night was three fumbles inside Jellico territory.

  • Bobcats top Midway, 24-13

    It was student vs. teacher at Oliver Springs' D.J. Brittan Field Friday night and on this night the student came out on top as Wiley Brackett's Oliver Springs Bobcats topped Craig Moser's Midway Green Wave, 24-13.

    For Brackett, Friday's victory was special as he started his coaching career at Midway and he has a lot of respect for his friend and counterpart on Friday.
