  • Robotics takes off at Roane County High

    It’s a robot.

    But not the variety adults are acquainted with, like “The Jetsons” maid Rosie, R2D2 from “Star Wars” or the “Lost in Space” robot that shared information with the Robinson family with its familiar, “Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!”

    “We’re comfortable with those models which resemble the human form,” said Cynthia Holmes. “They look like us, act like us, and some speak like us.”

  • Grace Church helps in war against methamphetamine

    Grace Community Church, Kingston, is teaming up with the Roane County Sheriff’s Office to fight the increase of methamphetamine lab activity.

  • Women, Hispanics still have time to file

    Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who allege discrimination by the USDA in past decades have just a bit more than a month to file claims.

    The filing period closes March 25.

  • Church Calendar: Feb. 16-March 1, 2013

    • Kingston First Baptist will have a Saturday women’s conference from 9 a.m. to noon in the sanctuary of the church at 215 N. Kentucky St. Tickets are $5 each; registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the church atrium. Humorist and author Kay DeKalb Smith will be the speaker. Call the church office at 376-6041 for details.

    • Dogwood Baptist Church, Kingston, will have a singing beginning at 7 p.m. The White Oak Trio and others will be singing. The church is on Dogwood Valley Road.

  • Cornellison, Nunley lead Lady Jackets past Stone

    Kingston’s duo of Haley Cornellison and Sydney Nunley combined for 44 points and 25 rebounds Tuesday in leading the Lady Jackets to a 67-60 victory at Stone Memorial. 

    The meeting would be the first of two this week. The second took place last night (Thursday) in the opening round of the District 4-AA Tournament being played at Kingston.

  • Lady Devils close out regular season

    The Harriman Lady Blue Devils closed out the regular season recently with a pair of District 3-A contests against Tellico Plains and Berean Christian.

    Home court advantage did not apply in either game as Harriman dropped a 54-45 decision at home against Tellico Plains before traveling to Knoxville and knocking off the Lady Eagles, 58-17.

  • Devils wrap up No. 3 seed

    The Harriman Blue Devils wrapped up the No. 3 seed in the upcoming District 3-A Tournament last Friday with a 58-48 victory over Tellico Plains.

    It was a good thing they wrapped up the seed last week as Tuesday night, the Devils ended the regular season with a 72-68 loss at Berean Christian.
