  • CASA race, United Way Fun Day May 21 at RSCC

    Roane County United Way will once again be taking over Roane State Community College’s campus for its annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 21. The event will run from
    11 a.m.-4 p.m., following  CASA’s Run for the Child fundraising event.
    CASA’s 5k run, walk and shorter fun walk begin at 8 a.m. Day of run registration is at 7 a.m. Money from the run will be used to train volunteers to be court advocates for children who have suffered abuse or neglect.

  • Mister Ellis goes to Washington

    Roane County Commissioner Randy Ellis spent some time in Washington, D.C., earlier this month to let officials there know his stance on coal ash.    
    “Obviously that issue is pretty close to me and my constituents in the Swan Pond area,” Ellis said.
    The Swan Pond community was impacted by what has been called one of the worst environmental disasters in history.
    On Dec. 22, 2008, a dike failure at TVA’s Kingston Fossil Plant released more than 5 million cubic yards of ash into the environment.

  • Students stuck in elevator saved by fire dept.

    It wasn’t a prank.
    The Kingston Fire Department responded to a call to Roane County High School Thursday morning after four students got stuck in an elevator.
    It didn’t take long; the fire department is just a block from the school.
    Fire Chief Willie Gordon said they arrived on scene quickly and got the students out in about a minute.
    “I’d say they were probably in the elevator for no more than 10 minutes,” Gordon said.

  • Lady Jackets force winner-take-all title game

     

    The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets are headed to next week's Region 2-AA Tournament.

    The only question left to answer is whether they'll be on the road or at home and that will be answered Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. as Ronnie Ladd's squad travels to Alcoa with the District 4-AA Tournament championship on the line.

    The Lady Jackets forced a winner-take-all championship game with Alcoa by knocking off the Lady Tornadoes Thursday evening, 6-2.

  • Lady Waves top Rockwood, 10-5

    The Midway Lady Green Waves secured a berth in next week's Region 2-A Tournament Tuesday night by defeating Rockwood 10-5 in the third round of the District 3-A Tournament played at Midway.

  • Rams hand Devils first loss of tourney

    The third time wasn’t the charm for the Harriman Blue Devils on Tuesday as for the third time this season, the Grace Christian Academy knocked off the Blue Devils with Tuesday’s 7-3 decision coming in the District 3-A Tournament winner’s bracket.

  • Green Waves eliminated by Tigers, 6-5

    Rockwood senior Collin Smith has had a lot of big hits during his four years at Rockwood High School. None, however, were bigger than Smith's two-out infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday evening as that hit drove in Hunter Golliher with the winning run in a 6-5 victory over Midway in a District 3-A Tournament elimination game.
