  • Houstons face lawsuit alone

    Brothers Rocky and Leon Houston no longer have co-defendants in a lawsuit filed by Pat Brown.

    All the county defendants, including former sheriff David Haggard, have been dismissed from the lawsuit.

    Brown filed the lawsuit in Roane County Circuit Court in 2007.

    Her son Mike was on a ride-along with Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Jones on May 11, 2006, when they were killed in a shootout with the Houston brothers.

  • Canada man crushed in freak accident

    STAFF REPORTS

    A man from Canada died from injuries he sustained when he tried to stop his rolling van in Kingston Saturday.

    The Kingston police and fire departments were dispatched to the Motel 6 parking lot on Gallaher Road.   

    According to police, they found a man pinned between the door of a Honda Odyssey van and a light pole when they arrived.

    Witnesses said the man, William E. Allan, was trying to get back in the van to stop it from rolling.
