Wow, wow, wow … great to read the recent article about TVA working with Roane County Executive Ron Woody to facilitate the correct accounting and distribution of TVA’s $43 million, an “example of the agency’s commitment to helping the area recover.”

Here we are three short years later. Time sure flies.

Let’s see, Ron, when you have the accountants set up the spreadsheets to track this money we’ll need to have accounts for:

A few weeks ago, our dear friend found his father deceased in bed.

After regaining some composure, he dialed 911, and they sent an ambulance.

EMS arrived, and the staff was very professional and offered their condolences. EMS informed our friend that it would cost $1,000 for them to take his father to the hospital to be pronounced, which, in turn, would create a hospital charge.

There was no way our friend could afford the EMS charge, so EMS suggested calling the Rescue Squad.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, I fell down a flight of stairs at my home and suffered an extensive open wound on my left arm which was bleeding profusely.

From the time I arrived at Roane Medical Center to register for emergency care I was treated with kindness, concern and patience.

Laura Smith in triage, Austin the nurse and Jennifer King, P.A. who expertly placed 23 stitches in my arm, were above the best.

I cannot recall the names of the other ER and X-ray staff members, but my appreciation extends to all.

Recently, a program aired on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” about a family who lost a 10-year-old child to suicide related to bullying.

The family has started an organization called, “Stand Together.”

That’s a great idea but I hope it will be more than a slogan. I hope that all reasonable people will take it to heart and actually stand up for another human being if they witness behavior which they know is wrong.

When we see another person being bullied, intimidated, or harassed, we should do something!
