  • Another takes issue with recent Tea Party letter

President Obama is the title he holds and deserves to be addressed as, not agitator or dictator.
The United States went through, very painfully I may add, eight years of Republican “bliss!”
President Obama walked into and accepted with dignity and honor this horrible job that was left to him by a Republican president.
Yet, you choose to condemn his efforts... why?
The Democratic party is not responsible for this tragedy from the previous eight years.

  • Christmas spirit alive and well in Rockwood, Roane

As a pastor, I believe in publicly acknowledging acts of kindness. This especially must be done when those random acts of kindness come in a cluster.

  • HUB billing ‘scam’ has writer hot under the collar

A couple of months ago my local utility decided that I should pay my bill a few days earlier.
My utility bill is the biggest bill I have, and I have struggled to pay it on time for 22 years.
I do that because it offends me to pay the extra fee for being one day late.
It only amounts to about 4 percent, but if you extrapolate that to the 30-day billing period it adds up to 120-percent interest. Isn’t that usury?

  • Accounting of TVA’s ash spill money missing something

Wow, wow, wow … great to read the recent article about TVA working with Roane County Executive Ron Woody to facilitate the correct accounting and distribution of TVA’s $43 million, an “example of the agency’s commitment to helping the area recover.”

Here we are three short years later. Time sure flies.

Let’s see, Ron, when you have the accountants set up the spreadsheets to track this money we’ll need to have accounts for:

  • Obama is in agitator/dictator mode, and it’s not pretty

This month, President Obama blamed capitalism, the foundation of this great country, for our poor economy.
He actually stated, “Capitalism doesn’t work, it has never worked.” If you really think about that one statement, you will begin to understand why this country is in the shape it is in today.

Our president has, for three years, been conducting a full-blown assault on out capitalistic system.

  • Pickup sent to drive away dead man not appreciated

A few weeks ago, our dear friend found his father deceased in bed.

After regaining some composure, he dialed 911, and they sent an ambulance.

EMS arrived, and the staff was very professional and offered their condolences. EMS informed our friend that it would cost $1,000 for them to take his father to the hospital to be pronounced, which, in turn, would create a hospital charge.

There was no way our friend could afford the EMS charge, so EMS suggested calling the Rescue Squad.

  • Kindness noted after family loses kin in vehicular accident

I wish to express my deepest gratitude to  the people of Roane and Morgan county for their overwhelming generosity in honor of the Bailey family.

It’s a very difficult time for us in light of the recent tragedy. However, the gifts of our fellow townspeople, both monetary  and the large amount of food that has been brought to our home, have helped  to show how well thought of Heath was.

He was an absolute treasure to the  entire family and was deeply loved.

  • Care at the RMC ER was superb, patient says

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, I fell down a flight of stairs at my home and suffered an extensive open wound on my left arm which was bleeding profusely.

From the time I arrived at Roane Medical Center to register for emergency care I was treated with kindness, concern and patience.

Laura Smith in triage, Austin the nurse and Jennifer King, P.A. who expertly placed 23 stitches in my arm, were above the best.

I cannot recall the names of the other ER and X-ray staff members, but my appreciation extends to all.

  • Harriman Gardens refugees give thanks after fire

We are writing this letter to thank everyone who helped during the fire at Harriman Gardens.

Thank God for letting everyone get out of the burning building that could have easily been fatal to everyone living there.

Thanks to the firefighters who got everyone out of the building safely. They showed caring and compassion while ensuring everyone’s safety.

The Red Cross that provided food and shelter when we were displaced. They immediately provided cots and tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

  • Nurture children, head off bullies for better place for all

Recently, a program aired on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” about a family who lost a 10-year-old child to suicide related to bullying.

The family has started an organization called, “Stand Together.”

That’s a great idea but I hope it will be more than a slogan. I hope that all reasonable people will take it to heart and actually stand up for another human being if they witness behavior which they know is wrong.

When we see another person being bullied, intimidated, or harassed, we should do something!
