  • Bible supports Israel, Israelites support the world

The Bible says, “I will bless them who bless you and curse you.” (Genesis 12:1-3)The word “you” in this text refers to Israel. Even though this message was written long ago in the Old Testament, God’s word clearly states, His word never changes.

This was His covenant with Israel.

At this time, they are the only longstanding democracy in the Middle East. We have not made them so. All Israel’s citizens are free to pursue life, liberty and happiness while others try to kill them.

  • Largen all wrong in his stance on Jews, Israeli state

I have before me Gerald Largen’s column from Sept. 22 concerning Israel. Largen made some comments I was hoping he could clarify.

First off, I am not Jewish, and therefore will not enter into a religious discussion with him.
    {Abbreviated excerpts used}

    • “Once again our government will unfortunately continue mistaken course pursued by previous administrations.”
Did not the Jews wander that desert for hundreds of years before there was anything resembling a Palestinian country/state?

  • Largen correct on status of Israel, writer concurs

Christian brothers and sisters, columnist Gerald Largen is absolutely correct once again.

Israel is a religion, not a nation.

Furthermore, they are no longer God’s chosen people. They are currently breaking God’s law for them — the 10 Commandments.

    They kill. They lust.

    They worship idols.

They kill Moslems. They lust for the land that they believe God promised to them. That land is the idol they worship.

How can they still be God’s chosen people? No way.

  • Wimberly responds to Tea Party crticism in newspaper

With his approval numbers plummeting as the disastrous results of his policies become apparent to more and more people, President Obama has put out the word and his minions are dutifully carrying out the plan to demonize the Tea Party.

On newscast after newscast, spokesmen blame those evil Tea Partiers for every problem known to mankind, in a desperate attempt to deflect attention and criticism away from the current administration.

  • She’s done with Gerald Largen’s denouncements

Once again, columnist Gerald Largen has deemed himslf superior and more intelligent, while denouncing a gentle reader as ignorant thrice.

Intoxicated with the exuberance of his own verbosity, he seems unable to disguise his arrogance and surely lacks any modicum of gentility.

    FINI!

  • Largen ought to recant ignorant statements

Being as I have never written a letter to Our Readers Write, I felt compelled to do so in relation to columnist Gerald Largen’s opinion on the Jews and Israel on Sept. 23.

I know that opinions are like noses, everybody has one.

But when he stated his ignorance of the Word of God about Israel and the Jewish people as being God’s chosen people and God Almighty establishing His name in the holy city of Jerusalem, then there is something he needs to know about God’s Word if indeed he believes the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God.

  • Hospital situation in Knoxville has her praising RMC

I have never seen such inappropriate behavior as I saw the week of Aug. 22-29 at Mercy West in Knoxville.

My husband went in to have hip surgery. After going to the third floor for recovery, he lay there a couple of hours before anyone checked on him.

All but three nurses and one assistant acted liked they were upset that we were there.

  • Less government — or more responsible public officials?

I keep reading and hearing the saying “we need less government.”

What are the specifics that this “less government” term refers?

Are you saying we need fewer regulations on the banking and investment industry?

    Should we eliminate public schools?

Are we going to stop medical support for those born with disabilities or for our veterans?

Since Social Security is an “entitlement program,” is that to be eliminated?

Are we also going to eliminate or privatize our police and prison systems?

  • Why buy goods from abroad that are dangerous to us?

    Arsenic in our food?

I was watching the news this morning, and I wasn’t surprised to hear that there was something in our food that didn’t belong there.

They were talking about apple juice but all the food we buy has changed drastically in the last 40 years.

When I was young fresh produce was a lot different than it is now. Fresh corn on the cob usually had some imperfections in it.

It wasn’t unusual to find worms in any kind of fresh produce. We just picked them out and kept on eating.

  • Rockwood’s green thumb comes from Rockwood 2000

A heart-felt thank you to the Rockwood resident who wrote how much she appreciates the flowering troughs on the Rockwood Street bridge.

Rockwood 2000 purchased and planted them. We are also responsible for the plantings at Homecoming Park on the corner of Rockwood and Front Streets.

Additionally, over the past five years, we have planted (and maintained) the landscaping at the post office, library, community center, dog pound, veteran’s clinic, and along on Gateway Avenue.
