Sunday, April 27, was Holocaust Memorial Day.
My friend, Mira Kimmelman, will soon be 92. She was sent to a concentration camp at age 15. It was winter when she was placed on an open train car with so many others. They were freezing. When they needed to relieve themselves, they sat in their own frozen waste.
Having spent much time in the Jewish Ghetto, she learned to live by her wits to get food for her family.
By now, she had lost her 13-year-old brother, and she had to draw strength and ingenuity to save herself.
