The Roane/Loudon County Farm Service Agency is seeking area farmers and ranchers to serve on the county committee for the coming year.

An informational meeting to explain the county committee nomination and election processes will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 17 in the FSA office at 424 N. Kentucky St., Room 100, Kingston.

Anyone interested in more information about the FSA county committee may drop in at any time during this meeting or call 376-2392.

Here’s why:

Since 2000 the United States has averaged 2.46 school shootings per year, including shootings where no one, including students, were injured or only the shooter died (suicide).

The chances of any particular K-12 school in the United States experiencing a shooting incident in any given year is approximately 1 in 53,925.

Kingston Public Library has been selected to receive an AWE Early Literacy Children’s Computer Station.

The library was selected to receive the self contained, educational computer station with programs for ages 2-10 by the Tennessee Children’s Cabinet through the Early Childhood Advisory Council and in partnership with the Tennessee State Library and Archives and the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

 The $3,200 grant for the station includes training two library staff members this summer.

U.S. Army Pvt. Richard A. Pague recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of James Pague of Rockwood.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness.
