A Walmart employee told police he had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over by a minivan in the parking lot. The passenger inside the minivan was suspected of shoplifting from the store.
According to the report, Rockwood police were dispatched to the Walmart on March 31 around 11 p.m. regarding a shoplifter.
“Roane County Central Dispatch advised the complainant/Loss Prevention Manager Ms. Nikol Lawyer attempted to stop the female but she ran out of the store and jumped into a silver 2008 Nissan Quest minivan,” the report filed by Officer Charles Haubrich said. “When I arrived I spoke with Ms. Lawyer and she said Ms. Angela Schweitzer, who is currently banned for life from Walmart, was in the arts and crafts section of the store and stole numerous items but the only item she could absolutely identify without reviewing the security video was a package of markers worth $20.”
The report said Lawyer asked to speak with Schweitzer after she passed the last point of sale, but Schweitzer took off running and jumped into the passenger seat of the minivan.
“The vehicle backed up out of the parking spot, striking one of the shopping cart corrals,” the report said. “When the vehicle went to pull forward it almost struck Mr. Christopher Pryor, a Walmart employee collecting the shopping carts out in the parking lot.”
Police spoke with Pryor about the incident.
“He said he had to jump out of the way or he would have been run over by the vehicle,” the report said.
RPD Sgt. Kendall Mitchell and Haubrich viewed video of the incident. Haubrich identified Larry Green as the driver of the minivan. Police later found Green walking down Hall Street.
“I had Sgt. Mitchell escort Mr. Green back to his uncle’s residence and that is where we found Mrs. Schweitzer sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle with the stolen markers lying in the floorboard at her feet,” the report said. “I placed both Mrs. Schweitzer and Mr. Green under arrest.”
Schweitzer was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft of property conduct involving merchandise and evading arrest. Green was charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license, aggravated assault, vandalism and theft of property conduct involving merchandise.
