Funds from the American Rescue Plan are still being doled out. Last month the Oak Ridge City Council voted to accept $125,755 in ARP funds from Roane County.
The original resolution said the funds had a “specific focus on upgrading the lift stations at the East Tennessee Technology Park,” but that language was struck out before the resolution was approved by the City Council.
“We have a bold strike though to recommend that you strike out some language at the end of the second whereas, so that we’re not listing a specific project,” Oak Ridge City Attorney Tammy Rackard told the City Council. “It will give the city more flexibility to what we use that particular ARPA funding for. It will be a Roane County-Oak Ridge project, though.”
The American Rescue Plan Act was a law passed by Congress in 2021. Millions of dollars were provided to state, county and city governments through the act.
Roane County Executive Wade Creswell said Thursday that the ARP funds that the city recently voted to accept from the county will not be used for the Oak Ridge Airport Project. Some county officials are not in support of the airport project.
“It’s not going to the airport,” Creswell said.
