  • Lady Jackets fall in overtime, 2...

     

    The Kingston Lady Jackets soccer team dropped a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to the Lady Indians a scant two minutes into overtime Tuesday evening at Southwest Point. 

    The first half set the tone for the game as defense was of the utmost importance, with Oneida scoring the lone goal of the first half.

  • TVAA opens regular season

     

    The opening weekend of the Tennessee Valley Athletic Association's 2014 was a hot one for all the teams involved. The extremely high temperatures has caused at least one program to reschedule week two games one hour earlier.

    What was expected to be a close game between District 3 A/AA powers Grace Christian Academy and Rockwood turned into a rout Tuesday evening as Wes Ford’s squad was clicking on all cylinders in an 8-0 shellacking of the Lady Rams.

    The 2014 season got off to a great start for Roane County teams last week as all four teams that played picked up victories.

    All five teams will be in action this week, but most will have to find a way to win on the road if week two is to be another successful week.

    Harriman High School students will hear a pair of Tennessee football legends Wednesday morning as former Blue Devil star and Tennessee wide receiver Jermaine Copeland along with former Vol and Super Bowl champion running back Jamal Lewis will make an appearance as part of the Vols for Life program.

  • Midway Middle drops Monday night...

    Jacksboro QB Zach Sulphridge tossed four touchdowns in leading the visiting Eagles to a 34-12 victory in a rare Monday evening contest at Midway.

    Sulphridge’s big night started late in the first quarter when he tossed a 13-yard scoring pass to Christian Shouse on the final play of the opening period.

    Sulphridge added the conversion pass to give the Eagles and 8-0 lead entering the second quarter.

    Sulphridge had set up the score with a 25-yard pass to Drew Jordan.

  • Green Wave hammers Eagles in...

     

    The Midway Green Wave were impressive in their opening game Friday night, pounding Tri-Cities Christian (TCC), 48-7. 

    The Green Wave dominated on both offense and defense, finishing with 365 total yards to 100 for TCC. By halftime Midway had allowed only nine total yards to the Eagles.

    The Harriman Blue Devils opened the 2014 season in style Friday night as Travis Tapp’s squad rolled past visiting Hancock County at Wallace Black Field, 41-14.

    The first half was especially impressive for the Devils as they rolled up 290 yards of offense and six TDs in taking a 41-6 lead into the locker room at intermission.

    The Bobcat Youth Movement was in full effect Friday night as the Bobcats took a 27-12 win over the Unaka Rangers Friday at D.J. Brittan Field.

     In what will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in Rockwood football history, John Webb’s Tigers erased a 13-0 deficit in the final 3:37 to knock off Oneida 14-13 in a thriller at Oneida’s Dr. M.E. Thompson Field.
