  • Rockwood tennis teams lose twice...

    The Rockwood tennis and soccer teams were in action this week, with the tennis teams dropping a pair of matches to Union County Tuesday and splitting a pair of matches Wednesday with Kingston at Roane State, while the soccer team defeated Gatlinburg-Pittman 2-0.


    The Lady Tigers lost their first first match 5-4 to fall to 5-1 overall, while the Tigers lost 5-2 to fall to 1-5 overall.

    Union County 5, Rockwood 2

    Zack Walker (UC) defeated Zach Melton 8-0.

    Nathan Capps (UC) defeated Thackery Porter 8-3.

  • Harriman wins series finale with...

    The Harriman Blue Devils baseball team hosted the Tellico Bears in a makeup game Wednesday and posted a 4-2 victory to gain a split in the District 3A series, after losing Tuesday 5-4 at Tellico Plains.

    Joe Pace took the hill for the Blue Devils in the second game of the home-and-home series and retired the side in the top of the first inning.

  • Oliver Springs, Oakdale split...

    After picking up a big district win at Oakdale Monday night, the Oliver Springs Bobcats hosted the Eagles Tuesday night and but suffered an 8-5 setback.

    Oliver Springs came out of the gate and made a lot of noise early and looked as if they were able to pick up their second victory in as many days, but with their bats did not produce as much as the innings went on.

  • Harriman Middle School defeats...

    The conditions for baseball were pretty much ideal at the start of the game between the homestanding Harriman Blue Devils and the Oliver Springs Bobcats in middle school teams.

    The Blue Devils picked up a 6-1 victory over the visiting Oliver Springs Bobcats.

    Jack Simpson got the start for the Blue Devils on the hill. Byrson Alcorn got things going for the Bobcats with a one out single to be the first runner for Oliver Springs.

  • Meigs County sweeps Rockwood in...

    The Rockwood Tigers baseball team were swept by the Meigs County Tigers in District 3A action, losing at the Mike "Brillo" Miller Sports Complex Tuesday and being shut out 4-0 in Decatur in a make-up game Wednesday.

    Meigs County 10, Rockwood 2: Meigs County scored 10 runs in the final two innings to defeat Rockwood the first game of the home-and-home series Tuesday evening.

    Rockwood jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead, allowing Rockwood starter Jimmy Vanosdale held Meigs County scoreless over the first five innings..

  • Spurgeon, Davis lead Lady...

    The Kingston Lady Jacket softball team returned to District 4AA play Wednesday night, as they defeated Knox Catholic 12-7 in Knoxville.

    Makenzie Spurgeon ripped two singles and a triple with two RBIs, and Autumn Davis whacked three singles with three RBIs to lead the Lady Jacket attack. Other contributing were Lenna Robinson (single, double); Briley Garrett (two singles, two RBIs); Meredith Garrett (single, RBI); Morgan Baalaer (home run, RBI); Casey Gaines (single) and Taylor Thurman (single, RBI).

  • Kingston loses twice to CAK

    The Kingston Yellow Jackets baseball team were swept by the CAK Warriors in their District 4AA series this week, losing 6-1 Tuesday at Southwest Point and being blanked 1-0 in Knoxville Wednesday in a make-up game.

    CAK 6, Kingston 1: The CAK Warriors scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the first game of the home-and-home series on Legion Field.

    CAK took a 1-0 first inning lead on two singles and an error, but the game remained scoreless until the Yellow Jackets scored once in the bottom of the fifth on Dakota Henry's solo home run.

  • Lady Waves finish 6-1 in Gibbs...

    The Midway Lady Waves softball team finished 6-1 in the Knox Gibbs Tournament over the weekend in Knoxville.
    Midway defeated Pigeon Forge 15-0; East Hamilton 11-1; Seymour 7-0; Chatanooga Central 2-0; St. Benedict at Auburndale 5-1; and Hendersonville 4-2, before losing to GPS 3-2.

    Midway 15, Pigeon Forge 0: Raygn Hall and Peyton Kelley combined to no-hit Pigeon Forge, striking out seven to pitch a three-inning perfect game. Hall was the winning pitcher to open the tournament Friday night.

  • Harriman, Oakdale split Region...

    The Harriman Blue Devils hosted the Eagles of Oakdale on Friday night in a doubleheader. The two teams were supposed to meet earlier in the season, but weather caused that to be delayed.

    The teams played two five inning games.

    The Eagles won the first game, 4-3, with the pitching duo of Brady Bingham and Justin Moore.

    Harriman won the second game, 11-2, behind the pitching of Alex Wampler.

    Oakdale 4, Harriman 3: The Blue were unable to get things going in the first inning, as Bingham and the Eagles made easy work.

  • Rockwood, Tellico Plains split...

    The Rockwood Lady Tiger softball team split a pair of District 3A games at Tellico Plains, dropping the first game 6-0 and taking the nightcap 6-5.

    Tellico Plains 6, Rockwood 0: Tellico Plains took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended the lead to 5-0 with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, sparked by Caitlin Morgan's RBI single and Bailey Hunt's three-run double.

    The Lady Bears added a solo run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 6-0 final score.

    Karlee Bowling singled, and Courtney Denny tripled for the Lady Tigers.
