    The Roane State Raiders baseball team got off to a great start in their 3-game series with the Cleveland State Cougars over the weekend, winning the first game of the set, 17-2, but Cleveland State rebounded nicely to take game two, 7-2, and game three, 7-4.

This season, college basketball fans in Roane County will get the opportunity to experience some of March Madness beginning Tuesday as Roane State Community College will play host to the 2014 TCCAA Region VII Basketball Tournament.

     Roane State Community College will host the 2014 Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Region VII Basketball Tournament March 4-8 on the main campus in Harriman.

    Tournament action opens Tuesday, March 4 at 2 p.m. and continues though Saturday, March 8. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $2 for students and are available at the door.

    The 2013-14 season came to a close Monday night for the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats, but not before Michelle Christopher’s squad gave the No. 3 ranked Meigs County Lady Tigers quite a scare before dropping a 41-36 decision in overtime in the Region 2-A Tournament semifinals.

    Fans who wear pink to Roane State Community College basketball games on Thursday, Feb. 27 will be admitted free and will be supporting a nationwide effort to raise awareness about breast cancer.

    The Roane State women play Cleveland State at 5:30 p.m. in the gym on the main campus in Harriman. The men’s game follows at 7:30 p.m.
