  • Harriman falls at state, 49-44

    Harriman's first trip to the TSSAA State Tournament in 15 years ended in disappointment Wednesday afternoon as the Blue Devils dropped a 49-44 decision to Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences (CSAS).

    Two things cost the Blue Devils (21-11) dearly in the loss. First was the final 3:10 of the first half in which the Patriots (28-7) closed the first half on a 14-0 run to take a 30-17 lead into intermission. The second was free throw shooting as Harriman made just eight of 20 freebies on the day.

  • Chemistry a key for Bobcats

    There's no I in team, but there is in chemistry and that's one thing Oliver Springs seniors Rue Eskridge, Tyler Harper, Wesley Rather, Lucas Tarver and Justin Taylor have a lot of.

    As Oliver Springs prepares for next week's TSSAA Class A State Tournament in Murfreesboro, Bobcat head coach Tony Ingram will rely on that chemistry and talent as the Bobcats look to bring home a state championship.

  • Perseverance pays off for Blue...

    Harriman head coach Jeff King knew his Blue Devils had a lot of potential at the beginning of the 2009-10 season. He also knew his team was young and would struggle at times learning how to compete at a championship level. He knew if his team would survive they would have to persevere.

  • Turnovers cost Bobcats in 50-44...

    The Oliver Springs Bobcats have overcome a lot of obstacles on their way to the TSSAA Class A State Tournament, but they couldn't overcome 21 turnovers Wednesday in a 50-44 loss at the hands of Grace Baptist Academy of Chattanooga.

    "I'm proud of them," Bobcat head coach Tony Ingram said of his team following the game. "I thought we played hard today, but we didn't take care of the ball very well today. We had 11 more turnovers than them (Grace) and that's too many possessions to give away."

  • 'Boro bound Bobcats

    The Oliver Springs Bobcats had been knocking on the door of greatness since joining Class A five years ago. Monday night at Hampton, the Bobcats knocked the door down with a 49-43 victory that earns the Bobcats their first TSSAA State Tournament appearance since 1999.

    Staring with the 2005-06 season, the Bobcats had won the District 4-A regular season or tournament title in each of the past four seasons, but they couldn't duplicate that success after district play.

  • Rather leads Bobcats past...

    The Region 2-A championship game turned into the Wesley Rather Show Thursday night as the Oliver Springs' senior guard torched the Harriman Blue Devils defense for five three-pointers and 28 points in leading the Bobcats to 56-47 victory.

    "I was feeling good one I got going tonight," Rather said following the game. "It's been 12 years since Oliver Springs had been to a region championship game, but I told our guys before the game we would get it if we just stayed focused and played hard."

  • Late runs sends OS to title game

    One small adjustment made a world of difference Wednesday night for the Oliver Springs Bobcats as Tony Ingram's squad knocked off Tellico Plains 44-32 to advance to the Region 2-A Tournament championship game against Harriman.

    Trailing 28-25, Bobcat head coach Tony Ingram told his defense to extend their packed-in zone on the perimeter to see if that could rattle the Bears and jump start the offense. The move worked as Oliver Springs responded with an 18-1 run that erased the deficit and put the game away.

  • Harriman rolls to title

    The third time was the charm Wednesday night for the Harriman Blue Devils.

    After dropping a pair of close games to the Tellico Plains in the regular season, the Blue Devils got their revenge with a 57-43 victory over the Bears in the District 3-A title game at Rockwood.

    A fabulous postseason run came to a disappointing end Monday night for the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats as Michelle Christopher's squad dropped a heartbreaking 52-50 decision at the hands of Coalfield in the Region 2-A Tournament semifinals played at Wartburg.
