  • Mt. Pisgah finishes 3rd in TAACS...

    The Mt. Pisgah Patriots were hoping last week’s trip to Springfield would result in a Tennessee Athletic Association of Christian Schools (TAACS) State Tournament title.

    The trip got off to a great start as the Patriots knocked off the South Haven Christian School Patriots, 59-51, in the TAACS quarterfinals.

    The combination of a three-hour bus ride to Roan Mountain and a Miss Basketball finalist in Brooke Rhodes was a little more than the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats could handle Saturday night as the Cloudland Lady Highlanders knocked off the Lady ‘Cats 51-43 in the TSSAA Class A Sectional.

    Wednesday night, however, the Grace Christian Academy Lady Rams stole a page out of the Lady ‘Cat playbook as they downed Oliver Springs 48-38 in the Region 2-A championship game at Harriman High School.

    For a half of basketball, the Harriman Lady Blue Devils had the District 4-A champion Wartburg Lady Bulldogs reeling on the proverbial ropes, gasping for air. 

  • Midway falls at Sunbright, 63-54

    Led by the 1-2 punch of seniors Kyle Gunter and Tyler Seabolt, the Sunbright Tigers picked up their first region win in 11 years, overwhelming Coach Darrell Ruffner and his Midway squad Saturday night in round one of the Region 2-A Tournament. 

    Gunter and Seabolt combined for 50 points in a 63-54 win at the Tiger den.

  • Blue Devils hold off Bobcats, 64...

    Not many teams have been able to slow down Harriman’s Xavier Howard this season and last Saturday night was no exception for the Oliver Springs Bobcats in the first round of the Region 2-A tournament at Harriman. What the Bobcats did though was almost outscore Howard and the rest of the Blue Devils. Harriman did hold on to get a 64-62 win, but the game’s final quarter was a hair raising experience for the Blue Devils.

  • Lady ‘Cats hold off Midway, 40-34

    It wasn’t easy, but the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats kept their season alive Friday night with a 40-34 victory at Midway in the opening round of the Region 2-A Tournament.
