  • Late TD sends Tigers to title...

    With a berth in the Clinch Valley Conference title game on the line, the Rockwood Middle School Tigers came from behind twice in the final 3:39 of play to down Robertsville, 44-41, in a thrilling game at Rockwood's Civitan Field.
    Thursday's game featured some incredible individual performances.
    For Rockwood, Logan Abbott led the way with 222 yards rushing and 4 TDs on only 14 carries while fellow Tiger Corbin Van Patten added 119 yards rushing and 1 TD on 11 carries.

  • Jackets swarm 'Dogs, 38-8

    The Cherokee Yellow Jackets swarmed into Wartburg and rolled to a 38-8 win over the Bulldogs Thursday night.
    “We jumped on (Wartburg) early and we haven't been doing that lately, because it's taken us a while to get started,” Cherokee head coach Brian Pankey said. “My hats go off to Wartburg. They played hard and they never quit.”
    Cherokee's first score came on a 56-yard touchdown run by Maurice Lane.
    Dre Guerrero ran in the two point play for the Jackets to take an early 8-0 lead with 5:55 left in the first quarter.

  • HMS blanks Oakdale, 34-0

    Harriman piled up 293 yards on the ground in a 34-0 victory over Oakdale to help celebrate eighth grade night last Thursday night.
    The Blue Devils (4-3) got a stern challenge from a determined bunch of Eagles, who missed on some early opportunities, but were able to notch the shutout to help their 21 eighth graders finish their last game on Wallace-Black Field with a win.
    Oakdale fumbled away their first possession and the Blue Devils answered with a 21-yard scoring drive capped by a five-yard run by Garrett Greene for a 6-0 lead.

  • Tornadoes top Kingston, 36-13

    For a quarter and a half, the Kingston Yellow Jackets hung right with the perennial powerhouse Alcoa Tornadoes, but in the second half, the Tornadoes touched down on the Kingston Yellow Jackets, ripping through the Yellow Jacket defense for the 36-13 win.

    Three was the magic number for the Rockwood Tigers Friday night as John Webb's squad picked up their third win in a row while also knocking off the Harriman Blue Devils for the third straight season with a 42-0 victory at Wallace-Black Field.

  • Deer, bear archery season now...

    Tennessee’s 2011 deer archery-only season opened across the state on Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

    The archery season dates in all deer hunting units are the same. Dates are: Sept. 24 – Oct. 28, Oct. 31 – Nov. 4.

  • James Yelton III disc golf...

    Roane County Park will be the site of the James Yelton III disc golf tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15.

    Registration for the tournament is 9 a.m. with the action starting at 10 a.m.

  • Martin wins Smoky Mountain...

    Greg Martin, of Oliver Springs, recently won the Crate Late Model feature race at Smoky Mountain Speedway. 

    Martin led all 25 laps in picking up the victory.
