  • Dixie Youth tourneys start Friday

    Friday night will be a big night for area youth league baseball players as the start of Dixie Youth postseason play begins in two age groups.
    A total of two Dixie Youth west sub-district tournaments will begin with teams from Roane County playing in  Rockwood and Spring City.

    The Dixie Youth A sub-district tournament for ages 5-6 will take place in Rockwood.
    A total of seven teams will battle it out in Rockwood with a total of three games being played on Friday.

    The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced the application period for the 2013 Elk and Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Big Game Quota Hunts, the Youth Elk, and WMA Youth will run through July 24.
    The elk and youth elk hunts were moved to coincide with the application period for the other Fall WMA/Youth Big Game Quota Hunts. Entries must be submitted before midnight (CDT) July 24.

    FAST Football Camp set for June 18-20

    The 2013 FAST Football Camp for ages 6-13 will be held at Roane State Community College in Harriman, from June 18-20 from 9 a.m. until noon each day.
    The camp is non contact and focuses on fundamentals. The camp will be ran by Oliver Springs head coach Wiley Brackett, Kingston head coach Brian Pankey and Rockwood head coach John Webb.
    Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The first day and the cost is $60 pre-registered or $65 day of camp. Siblings receive a $5 discount.

    When it comes to softball, not many places compare to Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium.
    Hall of Fame Stadium is the site of the NCAA Women’s College World Series, where the Tennessee Lady Vols recently finished second overall.
    This weekend, however, eight girls from Roane County, with college aspirations of their own, will get the opportunity to play at Hall of Fame Stadium as part of the 2013 ASA Hall of Fame Tournament.
