  • Bobcats struggle at York...

     

    The first road trip of the season wasn’t a good one for Oliver Springs, as the Bobcats traveled to Fentress County and were knocked off by York Institute, 48-0.

    The Dragons hit the Bobcats with an early haymaker, scoring 21 points in the first period. York cruised from there to pick up its first win of the season.

  • Harriman tops Sunbright for 2-0...

     

    It was not the most glamorous of affairs at times, but the Harriman Blue Devils overcame a sluggish start to the muggy evening and took home an impressive 34-7 win over the Sunbright Tigers.

    The Devils fell behind early, but scored 34 unanswered points, capitalizing on three Tiger turnovers to win on the road. 

  • MMS downs Wartburg, 28-14

    Playing its third game in seven days, the Midway Middle Green Wave picked up their first win of the season when they pulled away from Wartburg for a 28-14 victory at home Thursday night.
    The win was also a Clinch Valley Conference win for the Green Wave, who are now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
    Wartburg dropped to 1-3 with the loss and the Bulldogs are 0-2 in the conference.

  • Bobcats rally past Cherokee, 12-6

     

    Fans attending Thursday’s contest at Oliver Springs’ D.J. Brittan Field were treated to quite a contest as Larry Green’s Oliver Springs Middle School Bobcats scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to erase a 6-0 deficit and defeat the Cherokee Yellow Jackets, 12-6.

    The night started great for Rockwood Middle School, but the night didn’t that way, as the Harriman Blue Devils closed the game by scoring 24 straight points to keep the Tigers winless in a 24-8 game.

    The Kingston Lady Jackets soccer team dropped a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to the Lady Indians a scant two minutes into overtime Tuesday evening at Southwest Point. 

    The first half set the tone for the game as defense was of the utmost importance, with Oneida scoring the lone goal of the first half.

    The opening weekend of the Tennessee Valley Athletic Association's 2014 was a hot one for all the teams involved. The extremely high temperatures has caused at least one program to reschedule week two games one hour earlier.

    What was expected to be a close game between District 3 A/AA powers Grace Christian Academy and Rockwood turned into a rout Tuesday evening as Wes Ford’s squad was clicking on all cylinders in an 8-0 shellacking of the Lady Rams.

    The 2014 season got off to a great start for Roane County teams last week as all four teams that played picked up victories.

    All five teams will be in action this week, but most will have to find a way to win on the road if week two is to be another successful week.

    It’s not every day a Super Bowl champion running back is in Roane County, but that was the case Wednesday as former Tennessee Volunteer great Jamal Lewis was in town speaking to students at Harriman High School and Roane County High School.
