    The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets did a lot of things well Friday night at Loudon, but shooting the ball wasn’t one of them as Connie Guinn’s squad shot just 28 percent from the floor in dropping a 56-50 decision to the Lady Redskins.

    It may not have been the most glamorous game at times, but the Harriman Lady Blue Devils channeled the spirit of John Wayne, showing "true grit" in a 57-52 win over the Oakdale Lady Eagles on a bone-chilling Friday night.

    It wasn’t easy, but the Rockwood Middle School Lady Tigers won four games in three days to capture the Clinch Valley Holiday Classic title.

    Rockwood’s four wins came by a combined 11 points, with three of the four being decided by two points or less.

    For three quarters Friday night, Kingston’s Quint Gasque looked like Clark Kent at Loudon. After that, he was more like Superman in leading the Jackets to a thrilling 70-61 overtime victory over the Redskins.

    Winning a championship isn’t supposed to be easy, but that wasn’t the case for the Rockwood Middle School Tigers over the weekend as they won four games by an average of 16.5 points on their way to winning the Clinch Valley Holiday Classic hosted by the Tigers.

    The 2013 fall sports season is over, but the awards continue to come in for several Roane County athletes.

    Some of the biggest awards came last week as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) announced its all-state teams in football and soccer were released. 

  • Midway takes 4th in Jon Loden...

     The Midway Green Wave got off to a great start in the 2013 Jon Loden Holiday Classic on Friday when they knocked off Loudon in overtime, 83-80.

    The rest of the tournament did go so well, however, as Midway dropped a 73-59 decision against Upperman on Saturday, and then Dade County, Ga. rocked the Green Wave on Monday, 101-63.

    The 2013 Jon Loden Holiday Classic didn’t get off to a great start for the Midway Lady Green Waves, but they did finish strong as Jon Leffew’s squad downed Monterey, 46-44, Monday morning to finish seventh overall.
