    Roane State men’s basketball coach Randy Nesbit says his team can play like UNLV (the run-’n’-gun, circa 1991) or execute like Princeton (precision half-court offense, circa 1954).

    “We’ve got a nice blend of experience and talent,” Nesbit said. “We’re very multidimensional, and we can score in a lot of different ways.”

  • Sunbright soaks Eagles

    SUNBRIGHT - For nearly 34 minutes, Oakdale and Sunbright were involved in an old-fashioned smashmouth football game. With the Tigers clinging to a slim 14-12 lead in a steady rain late in the third quarter, they erupted for 30 points in the next ten minutes to pull away for a 44-18 homecoming victory Friday night.

    Sunbright earned their sixth straight win over the Eagles and kept their playoff chances alive in the process in the 26-point win at home.

    COALFIELD - Improbable. Unlikely. Unexpected. These are just a few words that describe the Coalfield Yellow Jackets rallying from a 14-0 deficit at one point to score seventeen unanswered points for a thrilling come-from-behind 17-14 win over the Harriman Blue Devils.

    Coalfield senior Ryan Armes booted through a 20-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Jackets to the 17-14 win over Harriman on Rochelle Field.

    Kingston’s hopes of winning the 2008 Region 2-AAA regular season championship came to a close Friday night as Knoxville Catholic drove 95 yards for a touchdown in the final three minutes and then added the two-point conversion for an 8-7 victory for the Irish.

  • Midway unexpectedly in middle...

    After losing their first six games of the season, virtually no one expected the Midway Middle School Green Waves to be in the TSMAA semifinals.

    Midway, however, visited Huntsville in the first round of the TMSAA playoffs Thursday and came away with a surprising 18-8 win over the top seed from the northwest division.

    While most of the Midway coaches wanted the win badly, they weren’t as sure going into the game that they would get it.

  • Indians scalp Sunbright

    ONEIDA-For over sixteen minutes, Sunbright battled the state's #4-ranked team tooth-and-nail. Oneida then pulled away from their 7-0 lead and cruised to a 49-0 victory over the Tigers on senior night.

    The Indians (9-0, 5-0 in Region 2-A) used another dominating defensive performance to stay unbeaten. They held Sunbright to negative 54 yards on the ground, forced three turnovers and notched their third shutout of the season.
