  • Midway advances in District 3A...

    After splitting the regular season series against Tellico Plains in a pair of one-run contests, the Midway Lady Green Waves downed the Bears Monday evening in the second round of the District 3A Tournament, 4-3.

    The key to Midway’s success Monday was the combined efforts of Payton Kelley and Ragyn Hall in the circle.

    The duo combined to throw a 3-hitter with only two walks and 10 strikeouts past the Lady Bears.

    “Our pitchers were dealing the whole game,” Midway head coach Megan Arndts said. “Both of them threw it well.”

  • Lady Waves shut out Greenback 10...

    The second-seeded Midway Lady Green Waves moved into the double-elimination portion of the District 3A softball tournament with a first-round win over Greenback 10-0 last Friday at Midway.

    Midway played third-seed Tellico Plains Monday at  Brickyard Springs in Rockwood.

    Tellico Plains beat Harriman 3-1 Friday night.

  • Davis, Thurman, Spurgeon lead...

    The Kingston Lady Jacket softball team advanced into the winner’s bracket of the District 4AA Tournament at Alcoa High School Monday, with
    an 8-3 victory over the Lady Tornadoes. Kingston was to play Christian Academy of Knoxville on Tuesday.

    The tournament was originally to be played at Southwest Point this week.

    It was moved due to some electrical issues on the softball field.

  • Yellow Jackets eliminated 9-8...

    Sean Kearney's two-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Knox Catholic a 9-8 victory over the Kingston Yellow Jackets in the loser's bracket of the District 4AA Tournament Monday night at Christian Academy of Knoxville.

    Catholic played Alcoa Tuesday night in the loser’s bracket.

    Kearney was the winning pitcher, after relieving Tyler Hayes in the sixth inning.

  • McCoig scores three goals in...

     

    The Kingston Yellow Jacket soccer team advanced into the District 4A/AA semifinals Tuesday night at Knox Catholic with a 7-2 victory over the Scott Highlanders Monday night. Catholic defeated Oliver Springs.

    The Kingston/Catholic winner will face the CAK/Alcoa winner in the championship game Thursday night.

    Kingston 7, Scott 2: Zach McCoig led Kingston with three goals, including his 70th career goal and 29th of the season. Riley Roberts had two goals, while Kieran Lamoureux and Zach Williams had one goal each.

  • Rockwood falls into district...

    The Rockwood baseball team dropped into the loser's bracket in the District 3A Tournament at Meigs County Monday night, after suffering a 15-2 loss to top seed Grace Christian.

    The Tigers played Greenback, 3-2 losers to Meigs County, in the loser's bracket Tuesday night in Decatur.

    Grace Christian 15, Rockwood 2: Grace Christian scored twice in the bottom of the first and six runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-0 lead, but the Tigers averted the shutout with a solo run in the top of the third on a passed ball.

  • Rockwood/Midway soccer season...

    Monday would prove to be the last time that Adam Rucker, Jose Coronilla, Tanner Seymour, Jack Lowe, Joey Michaud, Andrew Stamey, William Bornancin, Pablo De Elias and Drake Lamm stepped on the soccer field together as seniors. Rockwood’s season came to a close at the hands of the Carter Hornets by a score of 1-0.

  • Blue Devil tennis teams play in...

    The Harriman tennis teams completed their regular season and competed in the district tournament over the weekend in Pigeon Forge.

    The  Lady Devils finished third in regular season district and the Blue Devils finished sixth in the regular season.

    District tournament results:

    Natalie LaRue defeated Ashley Dilbeck (Meigs County 6-2,6-4) first round and then lost to Rachel Roberts (Gatlinburg-Pitman 6-0, 6-1) in second round.

    Shanya Westfield lost to No. 1 seed Madie Riggs (Gatlinburg-Pitman 6-0,6-1) first round.

  • Harriman soccer team loses 4-0...

    Harriman High School soccer has made strides in the past year. The season ended Monday, but not before they were able to keep building their foundation that they have laid.

    After Harriman picked up a 4-2 win over visiting Austin-East Friday night in the District 3A/AA Tournament, they traveled to Grace Christian, but the Rams were too much for the Blue Devils and posted a 4-0 victory.

  • Sports writers name Murray Class...

    Add another honor to the resume of another Roane County basketball player.

    Oliver Springs senior Taylor Murray was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class A All-State team.
