    It wasn’t easy, but the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats kept their season alive Friday night with a 40-34 victory at Midway in the opening round of the Region 2-A Tournament.

    The 2012-13 season came to a close Saturday night for the Kingston Yellow Jackets as Colt Narramore’s squad dropped a 75-38 decision at the hands of Austin-East in the opening round of the Region 2-AA Tournament.

    The Roadrunners made quick work of Kingston as they jumped out to a 19-3 after eight minutes of play.

    Michelle Christopher can finally get some sleep.

    What was causing the Lady ‘Cat head coach some sleepless nights was a 47-43 loss against Wartburg in the District 4-A semifinals on Feb. 15, but Oliver Springs exacted revenge Monday night in the Region 2-A semifinals with a dominating 55-37 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

  • Season ends for Rockwood

    The Wartburg Bulldogs played with a chip on their shoulders after a stunning District 4-A championship game loss to Sunbright.

    While the Bulldogs have to wait on extracting revenge from the Sunbright Tigers, they mauled the Rockwood Tigers Saturday night by a 67-52 margin. 

  • Region tourney invades Harriman

    A total of eight area basketball teams will be in Harriman this week as Richard Pickell Gymnasium will be the site of the Region 2-A Tournament semifinals and finals.

    The tournament actually tipped off over the weekend with first round games being satellite sites with the highest seeded team hosting games.

    Roane State Community College softball coach Sue Niemi loves her team’s maturity.

    For example, four players — Kristin Roy, Courtney Smith, Courtney Taylor and Meriam Maynord — made the college’s fall president’s list, which means they had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Mica Gaines and Bridgit Cook were on the dean’s list.

    But, so is his team.

    “When we play like we are capable of playing, I’d put us up against anybody,” Lane said.

    Harriman head coach Wes Jones felt his Blue Devils would come out and play well in Wednesday’s District 3-A Championship game against Grace Christian.

    But Jones never envisioned that his squad would put together one of the most impressive performances in Harriman history, as the Blue Devils opened the game with a 37-8 run before settling for a 72-53 victory.

    Playing in front of a large crowd seated in beautiful new bleachers at Midway Middle School, the host Lady Waves were hoping to treat the hometown fans with a District 3-A Championship.

    No. 1 seed Grace Christian Academy had a different idea, however, as the Lady Rams knocked off Midway 49-35 Tuesday night to capture the District 3-A Tournament title.

  • Lady Devils finish 4th

    The Harriman Lady Blue Devils were hoping to end the District 3-A Tournament with an upset victory over No. 2 seed Tellico Plains in Tuesday’s consolation game, but the Lady Bears wouldn’t be upset for a second straight game, as they held off the Lady Devils, 53-49.
