  • Lady Waves advance to region...

    The District 3-A Softball Tournament came to a close Thursday night at Tellico Plains.

    Two Roane County teams, Harriman and Midway, met in the loser’s bracket elimination game. Midway lived to fight another day with a 6-3 win over Harriman. The victory secured Midway a berth in next week’s Region 2-A Tournament.

    In what will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in Rockwood baseball history, Jake Witter’s squad erased a 10-7 deficit by scoring six runs in their final at bat to defeat the Grace Christian Rams 13-10 Thursday night in the District 3-A Championship Game played at Grace.

    Following a one day rain delay, the District 3-A softball tournament got under way Tuesday at Tellico Plains.

    The Midway Lady Green Waves played the first game of the session and picked up a 2-0 win over the host Lady Bears.

    The Kingston Lady Jackets softball team was hoping that by Wednesday evening they would have locked down a berth in next week’s Region 2-AA Tournament.

    The District 3-A Softball Tournament moved into its third round Wednesday at Tellico Plains with the offense being hard to come by for each of the four teams still alive.

    Harriman eliminated Tellico Plains in the opening game Wednesday, 5-0. The Lady Devils won despite having only four hits in the game.

    After seeing Monday’s and Tuesday’s action in the District 3-A Baseball Tournament cancelled due to weather, the decision was made to do away with the traditional double elimination format and go to a single elimination format for the four teams left standing.

    Bruce Robinette’s squad from Kingston fared well in the District 4-AA tournament, but ran out of gas in game four to be eliminated from play.

    The District 4 A/AA Tennis Tournament was held earlier this week at Stone Memorial High School, and although several players from Roane County won matches in individual play, none would advance to next week’s Region 2-AA Tournament.

  • Jones opens district tourney...

    Oliver Springs sophomore Courtney Jones fired a no-hitter Tuesday and the Lady ‘Cats tied a school record with 22 wins in downing Jellico 10-0 in the first round of the District 4-A Tournament being played at Wartburg.

    The Lady 'Cats struck quickly with an RBI double by Jones and a sacrifice RBI by Kaylee Morgan for the early 2-0 lead.
