  • Lady Jackets down Hawks, Warriors

    The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of wins earlier this week as Ronnie Ladd’s squad knocked off Hardin Valley Academy Monday, 11-4, and they followed that on Wednesday with an 8-5 victory over Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK).

  • Lady Tigers pick up big wins

    After dropping games against Midway, Tellico Plains and Grace Christian Academy over the past couple of weeks, it appeared that a once promising season for the Rockwood Lady Tigers was going up in flames.

    The Rockwood Tigers and Kingston Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season Wednesday evening with Kingston handing the Tigers a 13-3 setback at Rockwood’s Mike “Brillo” Miller Sports Complex.

  • Nine receive karate promotion

    At a promotion ceremony recently held at the Roane School of Isshin-ryu Karate in Harriman, a combination of nine instructors and students received promotion certificates from grand master Tommy True.

  • Martin wins late model race

    Roane County’s Greg Martin won the NeSmith Late Model feature at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday.

    Martin qualified second, but took the lead at the beginning at led from start-to-finish in winning the 25-lap race.

  • Lady Waves down Harriman, 12-6

    The Midway Lady Green Waves wrapped up the regular season District 3-A title with a 12-6 triumph over a tenacious Harriman Lady Blue Devils squad at Harriman’s Flour Mill Flats. 

  • Waves take two from Coalfield

    The Midway Green Waves picked up a pair of wins Friday against Coalfield.

    Midway won game one in impressive fashion with a 13-3 victory. Game two was much closer, with the Green Waves picking up a 5-4 victory.

    When Harriman blasted Midway 16-1 last Monday, it appeared that the Green Waves were out of the running for one of the top spots in District 3-A.

  • Thompson signs with Patriots

    A great student with great character are a couple of ways to describe Kingston’s Woody Thompson. A couple more ways are a great athlete with a great work ethic.
    That total package was something that didn’t miss the eye of John Bland and last Thursday the University of the Cumberlands head football coach was in Kingston to sign Thompson to an athletic scholarship.

  • Tellico Plains roughs up Rockwood

    Senior Night for the Rockwood Lady Tigers softball team ended on a sour note as the Lady Tigers dropped a 15-7 decision to the Tellico Plains Lady Bears.
    The Lady Bears had an RBI double by Shaylyn Dicandio and a sacrifice RBI by Laney Lovin to take an early 2-0 lead.
    Rockwood scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning when Chelsea Cheek and Kelsey Brackett each stole home.
    Tellico Plains scored a trifecta of runs in the top of the second inning courtesy of a two-run double by Braden Garren and an RBI off of an error to make the score 5-2.
