  • MMS splits with Philly

     

    Skyan Lyle hit a lay-up with 12 seconds left Tuesday night to give the Midway Middle School Green Wave a 38-36 victory at Philadelphia.

    Lyle’s basket capped a great night for the Midway eighth-grader as he led all scorers on the evening with 23 points.

    The Oliver Springs Bobcats and Lady ’Cats tipped off the 2013-14 season at Cosby Tuesday night, but the trip wasn’t a good one as the host Eagles took both games.

    A slow paced, low scoring girls game was followed by a high scoring, fast paced boys game when the Midway Green Waves hosted the Mt. Pisgah Patriots in the only Hall of Fame game Midway would be involved with this season.

  • Bobcats splits with Bulldogs

     

    There wasn’t a lot of drama at Oliver Springs Middle School Thursday night as the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats and Wartburg Bulldogs cruised to easy wins.

    The Lady ’Cats took the floor first and shook off a slow start on their way to a 51-19 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

    Abigail King of the Atomic City Aquatics Club swept all of her individual swimming events at the ACAC Invitational Meet held at the Oak Ridge Civic Center.

    It may not have been the most high-scoring of affairs, but the Cherokee Middle School Lady Jackets picked up a 29-18 win over the Harriman Lady Blue Devils Monday evening. 

    Cherokee jumped out to the early 8-4 lead and expanded the lead to 15-8 at the half.

    The Roane State Raiders led for the majority of Saturday’s TJCAA opener against Walters State, but the Senators closed the game on a 10-0 run to escape Harriman with an 80-74 victory.

  • Rockwood falls at Silverdale

    There’s something about Chattanooga that doesn’t sit well with the Rockwood Tigers, as Friday night marked the third straight season and fourth in the past five years that the Tigers would see their season end in the city bordering Georgia.

    The first three trips were at Boyd-Buchanan in 2009, 2011 and 2012, while Silverdale Baptist Academy knocked the Tigers out of the TSSAA Class 2A playoffs Friday night, 34-18.

  • Midway rolls past Unaka in...

    The Midway Green Wave hosted their first playoff game since 2007 and the wait was worth it as Joe Campbell’s squad rolled past Unaka, 40-7.

    The Green Wave started this season red hot scoring no less than 28 points through the first five games. They had a little lull scoring wise in the next four games but seem to have picked up the pace a little in the last two games, scoring 38 at Greenback last week and 40 Friday night against the Rangers.

  • Harriman falls at Moore County,...

    The 2013 season ended on a sad note for the Harriman Blue Devils Friday night as Travis Tapp’s squad dropped a 20-7 decision at Moore County in the opening round of the TSSAA Class 1A playoffs.

    Harriman faced an uphill battle Friday, but stayed within striking distance until late in the contest. The Blue Devils were without about half of their starting lineup due to injuries, plus they had to deal with a long bus ride to Lynchburg to take on the Blue Raiders.
