    Kingston senior Sarah Rainwater's hopes of winning the TSSAA Class A-AA State Tournament came to an end Thursday evening with a 6-1, 6-0 loss against Christ Presbyterian Academy sophomore Sydney Campbell in the tournament's semifinals.

    During her four years at Roane County High School, Kingston senior Anna Hamilton always worked hard with the hopes of one day playing college softball.

    That hard work paid off recently as last week Hamilton signed scholarship papers with Roane State Community College.

    The deadline to apply for participation in Tennessee’s third-ever managed elk hunt is approaching. Sportsmen have until midnight (CDT) on May 31 to submit their application to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

    The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will host its 2011 Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop June 10-12 in Crossville at the Clyde M. York 4-H Center.

  • Lady Jackets come up one game...

    Unicoi County pitcher Kara Woods proved too much for the Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets to handle Saturday afternoon as the Lady Blue Devil ace tossed a complete-game four-hitter with six strikeouts to lead Unicoi County to a 6-2 victory with a berth in the TSSAA Class AA State Tournament on the line.

  • Coalfield camp starts Tuesday

    The 2011 Coalfield Basketball Camp will run next Tuesday thru Friday at Coalfield School.

    The camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon daily for ages 5-9 and from noon until 3 p.m. for ages 10-13.

  • Offense fails Harriman in 4-1...


    In the past 10 years the Harriman Blue Devils have won district championships, region championships and have advanced to the TSSAA Class A State Tournament three times.

    Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, the one they they haven't been able to do during that span is win a TSSAA sectional contest at Unaka and Friday night was no different as the Rangers ended the Devils season for the fifth time this millennium with a 4-1 victory at Twins Stadium in Elizabethton.

  • Lady Waves fall one game short...


    The 2011 season came to an end Friday evening for the Midway Lady Green Waves, but the Lady Waves didn't go down without a fight as Craig Hutchinson and Barry Narramore's squad dropped a 12-10 decision at Unaka in the TSSAA Class A sectional.

    The tone of Friday's slugfest was set early as Unaka's Katherine McInturff led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. Unaka would score another run in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

    Midway answered with a vengeance as they scored six runs in the top of the second inning.
