  • Remembering James Sams

    It’s often said that you can tell how a person lived their life by how they’re remembered.

    James Sams III will be remembered for his abilities as an athlete, a friend and a person.

    Sams, 18, died late Tuesday afternoon in a tragic head-on collision. His death has rocked Roane County High School and touched Roane County as a whole.

  • Lady Tigers pick up big win

    After dropping a pair of games to Midway earlier in the season, the Rockwood Lady Tigers knew they had to beat Harriman Thursday night if they wanted to stay in the race for the regular season District 3-A title.

    Rockwood did just that as Jessica Jones' squad never trailed in picking up an 8-1 victory.

    Roane County's biggest springtime rivals met again Tuesday and Wednesday and it would be the fans of the Harriman Blue Devils holding bragging rights for the time being as Andy Adcox's squad swept the season series from Rockwood.

    On Tuesday, the Blue Devils traveled to Rockwood and handed the Tigers a 12-1 setback. Harriman completed the sweep Wednesday, but it wasn't as easy as Harriman held off Rockwood, 11-6.

  • Harriman rallies for win

    The Midway Green Waves came within an out of upsetting one of the district leaders Wednesday afternoon at Midway as Harriman scored six runs with two outs in the top seventh inning to get a 7-2 win and remain tied with Grace Christian Academy at the top of the District 3-A standings.

    Harriman improved to 5-1 in the district with the win and share the district lead with Grace who also has one loss. Midway dropped to 1-5 in the district, but are 9-6 overall.

    While the Harriman Blue Devils overall record isn’t sparkling, they do remain in a tie for first place in District 3-A after the Blue Devils eased past Midway 6-1 Monday at Harriman.

  • Lady Devils notch 13th win

    The Harriman Lady Blue Devils improved to 13-2 overall with an 8-1 victory over Sunbright in the first game of a road doubleheader on Thursday.

    Harriman never had one huge inning against the Lady Tigers, but David Currier's squad did score at least one run in all five innings of play.

    Harriman's first run came in the top of the first inning as Moriah Anderson opened the game with a bunt single and she would score on a ground out from Lindsey Daugherty.

    The Kingston Yellow Jackets spent most of Thursday evening playing catch-up at Oliver Springs’ Arrowhead Park, but in the end Bruce Robinette’s squad used an RBI ground out from Josh Banken with one out in the top of the seventh inning to pick up a 6-5 victory over the Bobcats.

  • Titans Caravan coming to Roane...

    The Tennessee Titans have announced the schedule for Titans Caravan XII, the first of many events in a year-long celebration of the organization’s 50th season in professional football. This year’s Caravan begins Monday, April 13 and will make a total of 44 stops over a span of nine days.
