  • Wartburg stops Sunbright

        WARTBURG—Wartburg opened up their District 4-A season with an impressive sweep of Sunbright Friday night.

        The Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated with a 70-41 victory over Sunbright, while the Wartburg boys cruised to a 69-24 win against the Tigers, who went the entire third quarter without scoring.

        WARTBURG—Both Wartburg basketball teams flexed their muscles in a pair of regional battles against Greenback last Tuesday.

        60 was the winning lottery number for the two Wartburg teams as the Lady Bulldogs won 60-30 over an outmatched Greenback team, while the Bulldogs earned an exciting 60-57 victory over the Cherokees in a battle of two of the most highly-touted Class A teams in East Tennessee.

  • Lady Tigers rip Greenback 55-33

        SUNBRIGHT — Kathryn Johnson earned her first signature win with a 55-33 victory over the Greenback Lady Cherokees last Tuesday.

        The rookie coach at Sunbright rallied her team from a first quarter deficit to roll up the 22-point home win.

        “It was a good start to the season. It was a good win,” said Johnson, who got her first career win.

        OAKDALE - Fred Snow’s Lady Eagles have started off the 2008-09 high school basketball season strong with a perfect 4-0 record heading into this week.

        After losing four starters and one of the most successful senior groups in OHS history, Oakdale is reloading for another exciting campaign.

    It was a tough start to the 2008-09 season for the Midway Green Waves. They dropped two games each to visiting Kingston on Saturday and Monday to Wartburg.

    The Lady Waves stayed close until halftime with county rival Kingston before falling 63-45. Monday night, they trailed Wartburg by 24 at halftime before falling, 78-56.

    The Green Waves led Kingston until the midpoint of the fourth quarter, but would eventually fall 49-39. Against Wartburg they could not keep up with the Bulldogs’ Caleb Bunch and fell, 81-59.
