  • Lady Devils defeat Sweetwater in...

    After opening the Jim Cordell Christmas Tournament Wednesday with two wins by the Blue Devils and a loss by the Lady Devils, the two teams posted wins Thursday evening.
    The Lady Devils picked up a nice, overtime victory over the Lady Wildcats over Sweetwater, of 52-49, while the Blue Devils took down the Cumberland County Jets 63-50.
    Harriman 52, Sweetwater 49: Some wins do a lot more for a team than others, and that was the case as the Lady Devils picked up the needed victory over the Lady Wildcats.

  • Oliver Springs loses catfight to...

    The Oliver Springs Bobcats suffered their second defeat in the Jim Cordell Christmas Tournament Thursday evening, losing 71-61 to the Sweetwater Wildcats.
    Sweetwater opened the game with a 5-0 run, but baskets by Matt Gaylor,  Jacob Humphries and Jeremiah Johnson gave the 'Cats a 7-5 lead with under five minutes left in the first quarter. Oliver Springs had three turnovers in their first five positions of the contest.

  • Rockwood, Sunbright split games

    The Rockwood Tigers and Coalfield Yellow Jackets had themselves a series split on day two of the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic. The Coalfield Yellow Jackets may not have had as high of an output as the previous day against North Greene, but it was enough to eke out a 45-38 defensive duel against the Tigers. Rockwood;however, the Lady Tigers gained their revenge as they outlasted the Coalfield Lady Jackets by a 52-44 tally.

    The Kingston basketball teams won two more games in the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic Thursday night, as the Yellow Jackets defeated Clarkrange 47-28 and the Lady Jackets beat Oakdale 49-40.
    Kingston 47, Clarkrange 28: Yellow Jacket fans were all smiles on Thursday as Kingston continued their dominant run in the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic by defeating the Clarkrange Buffaloes, 47-28.

    The Kingston basketball teams rolled to two victories in the opening round of the Jim Cordell Christmas Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Harriman Middle School, as the Yellow Jacakets defeated McMinn Central 48-28 and the Lady Jackets prevailed 48-41 over Jackson County.
    Kingston 48, McMinn Central 28: A quick 12-3 start set the pace early for the Jackets. McMinn made a run of their own to cut the Kingston lead to 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Tyler Thurman poured in eight points in the frame.

  • Harriman extends winning streak...

    The Harriman basketball teams opened the annual Jim Cordell Christmas Tournament by playing three games Wednesday evening, with the Blue Devils beating Olliver Springs 69-31 and Rhea County 74-57 to extend their winning streak to 11 games, while the Lady Devils lost to region foe Sunbright 35-29.
    Harriman 69, Oliver Springs 31: The Blue Devils took control of the game early and kept things rolling throughout the contest, as the Blue Devils defeated the Bobcats for their first win of the night.

  • Midway is swamped by Sweetwater...

    The boys from “South Of the River,”  the Midway Green Wave, ran into a ferocious pack of Sweetwater Wildcats on day one of the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic, falling by a 77-54 margin on Wednesday afternoon.
    Sweetwater started the game on a 15-3 tear before closing out the first period up 24-10 on the Green Wave. Brett Spurgeon (7 points) led the Wildcats in opening period scoring.

  • Lady Tigers defeat Lookout...

    The Rockwood Lady Tigers started out their run in the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic in strong fashion by defeating Lookout Valley 49-37.
    "We grew a little tonight and played through some adversity tonight, as we had a couple of players out with injuries," said Coach Amy Breazeale.
    A balanced attack in the first quarter put the Lady Tigers ahead 17-10 in the end of the frame.
    Lexie Hill, Camryn Evans, Megan Monday and Karlee Bowling each found the scoreboard for Rockwood.
