  • County soccer teams end regular...

    The soccer teams from Harriman, Kingston, Oliver Springs and Rockwood will conclude their regular seasons this week.
    Harriman (2-7-1) closes out the season Tuesday at Anderson County.
    Kingston (5-3-5) has three matches left - McMinn Central Tuesday, at Maryville Christian Thursday and Clinton Friday.
    Oliver Springs (0-11) hosts Stone tonight (Monday), Berean Christian Tuesday and Carter Thursday.
    Rockwood (1-9-3) closed out its season against Kingston Friday evening.

    One of the best athletes to ever play sports in Roane County will be playing basketball at the next level, as Harriman senior Joe Pace signed scholarship papers Thursday to play at Bryan College.

  • Shannon, Guinn lead All-County...

    Harriman Blue Devil coach Shay Shannon and Kingston Lady Jacket coach Connie Guinn are the Roane County News Coaches of the Year. Shannon guieded the Blue Devils to the Class A State championship, after finishing second in the District 3A, winning the Region 2A Tournament and beating Cosby in the sectional.
    The Lady Jackets finished 23-6 overall, including the District 4AA Tournament championship and a 1-1 mark in the Region 2AA Tournament, beating Austin-East and losing to Fulton in the semi-finals.

  • Woody, Robinette lead Kingston...

    The Kingston baseball and softball teams were on the road Wednesday despite the threatening weather.
    Coach Bruce Robinette’s Yellow Jackets defeated Alcoa 2-1 in a make-up District 4AA baseball game, as Bryce Woody outdueled Will Shelton. Woody held the Yellow Jackets to one run on five hits with 14 strikeouts and two walks, while Shelton limited the Yellow Jackets to two runs on six hits with one walk.
    Woody and Colton Robinette had run producing hits in the top of the fourth inning for Kingston.

  • Roane County Knights playing in...

    The Roane County Knights lacrosse teams will be playing in the Knights Cup Lacrosse Tournament tonight and Saturday at Knoxville Catholic High School Blaine Stadiium to benefit Knights of Columbus Charities. The tournament features youth, high school and collegiate competition.
    The Appalachian Athletic Conference semi-finals are scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m. Friday.
    The CAK Warriors open play Saturday at 8 a.m. against Knox Canons Middle School and the Farragut Youth Lacrosse League vs. the Roane County Knights Middle School in semi-final matchups.
