  • Cherokee Middle School Yellow...

    Cherokee Middle School displayed their hardwood dominance on Monday, sweeping the Philadelphia Middle School Warriors with the Lady Jackets battling to win a 29-12 slug-fest and the Cherokee Boys swarming early and often to the basket in a 53-28 win over Philadelphia.
    Cherokee 29, Philadelphia 12: The Cherokee Middle School Lady Jackets endured a physical, defensive battle and rose to victory by a 29-12 margin over the Philadelphia Warriors.

  • 28 county players named All-...

    Twenty-eight players from Midway, Harriman and Kingston were named All-Region, while one player each from Rockwood and Oliver Springs were named All-Academic for Region 2-2A.
    •Midway senior quarterback Jacob Woody led a contingent of Midway football players on the All-Region 2-1A team. Woody was named Offensive Player of the Year after he rushed for 2088 yards on 199 carries with 27 touchdowns and completed 38 of 104 passes for 668 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions for 2756 total years, as the Green Waves finished 5-5 on the season and 2-4 in the region.

  • Harriman, Rockwood split...

    The Harriman and Rockwood basketball teams have a busy week with three games each, after the two schools split District 3A games Friday night in the Dr. Tom Evans Gymnasium at RHS.
    Rockwood has two road games - at Kingston Monday and at Wartburg Tuesday and followed by a rematch Friday at home against Meigs County, while Harriman continues its road swing at Scott Monday, at Greenback Tuesday and at Meigs County Thursday, before hosting the annual Jim Cordell Christimas Tournament Dec. 28-30.

  • Kingston, Rockwood split opening...

    For the second time in three days, two county rivals squared off on the hardwood, as Rockwood visited Kingston Monday, with the Lady Tigers defeating the Lady Jackets 38-32 and the Yellow Jackets defeated the Tigers 62-36.
    Rockwood 38, Kingston 32: "We played well, played together and showed a lot of maturity," said Lady Tiger Coach Amy Breazeale, whose team posted their first victory over the Lady Jackets since 52-43 and 38-36 victories during the 2013-14 season.

  • Harriman battled Scott

    The Harriman High School basketball teams travelled to Scott County on Monday for the first of three road games this week, after a couple of emotional games at Rockwood Friday.
    After their 41-34 loss to the Lady Tigers Friday, the Lady Devils were beaten 38-28 by the Lady Highlanders, while the Blue Devils outscored the Highlanders 76-38, after their 73-34 win over the Tigers.
    Scott 38, Harriman 28: The Lady Devils played a close game with the Lady Highlanders.
    Katie Kring led Harriman with 13 points, while Jada Johnson added 10 points.

  • Midway visits Kingston Thursday

    The Midway basketball teams travel to Kingston Thursday night for the first of their two season match-ups, after the Green Wave dropped a pair of District 3A games in Greenback Friday evening.
    The Lady Waves lost to Greenback 49-37, while the Green Wave were beaten 61-49.
    Greenback 61, Midway 49: Tevin Kilpatrick and Hunter Willis pumped in 20 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Cherokees.
    Dalton Beason led the Green Wave with 13 points.

  • Tornadoes blow past Yellow...

    The Kingston basketball teams dropped their District 4AA opener at Alcoa Friday night, as the Lady Jackets were beaten 53-32, while the Yellow Jackets lost 64-50.
    Alcoa 53, Kingston 32: Alcoa led 13-7 after one quarter, but things slowed in the second, as the Lady Tornadoes outscored Kingston 9-7 for a 22-14 lead at halftime. A 16-10 third quarter and a 15-8 fourth quarter made the final score 53-32.

  • OSMS wins battle of cats with RMS

    The Oliver Springs Middle School basketball teams swept  a pair of games at Rockwood Middle School, as the Lady 'Cats defeated the Lady Tigers 35-10 and the Bobcats held off the Tigers 37-29.
    OSMS 35, RMS 10: Shaeli Hicks gave RMS a 2-0 lead, but OSMS scored 13 unanswered points to take a 13-2 lead after one quarter. Cassidy Gilmore scored nine of the Lady 'Cats points.

  • Halls Red Devils hex Oliver...

    It was a vexing night for the Oliver Springs High School basketball squads against the Halls High School Red Devils. The Lady ‘Cats gave a formidable effort, but couldn’t overcome Panda Riggs of Halls and her 26-point outburst in the 54-46 loss. The Bobcats found the going to be far tougher in a 75-42 loss to Halls.

  • RSCC’s strong second half beats...

    The Roane State Raiders used a strong second half performance to pick up an 81-57 victory over Bryan College’s JV squad in Dayton Thursday night.
    The Raiders led just 34-31 at halftime, but opened the second half with a 20-4 run to grab a 54-35 lead with 10 minutes remaining. The Lions never got closer than 16 points down the stretch as Roane State ran its record to 7-7 on the season.
