  • Rockwood Lady Tigers beat CAK

    Kaley Legg scored two goals to lead the Rockwood Lady Tiger soccer team to a 2-1 victory over CAK in the Region 2A/AA semifinals Tuesday night, which earned RHS a berth in Thursday evening's championship game at Grace Christian and a first-ever berth in Saturday's section game against either Greeneville or University School.
    "That was 80 minutes of soccer. Finally....mind over body," said Rockwood Coach Don Maples. "It was a total team effort. "

  • Three county teams continue...

    It seems every week in the regular season is more important than the week before, but that’s not really the case this week for Roane County teams.
    Only three games are on the schedule this week as Oliver Springs and Kingston have an open date. The other three games are all region contests, but for all intents and purposes, next week will be the week that decides the playoff fate for all county teams with a chance to make the postseason.

  • How time flies! Week 10 is upon...

    How time flies! It is now week 10 of the high school football season, with three of the five county teams in action tonight — Sunbright at Midway, Rockwood at Wartburg and Harriman at Greenback.
    Two of three games are Region 2-1A games and the other is a Region 2-2A game. All three will  have some bearing on the playoffs, which begins Nov. 4.
    Greenback leads Region 2-1A leads with a 4-0 record, followed by Oneida (4-1), Coalfield (3-1), Harriman (2-2), Jellico (1-3), Midway (1-4) and Sunbright (0-4).

  • Kingston soccer team ends season...

    The Kingston Lady Jacket soccer team were elimination from the District 4A/AA last week.
    The Lady Jackets played Oneida in the first round of the district tournament and beat them 3-2 in overtime. MacKenzie Bunch scored two goals, and MacKenzie Haba scored the winning goal in the second 10 minute overtime.

  • Midway cross country team runs...

    The Midway cross country teams participated in the Cove Lake Invitational at Cove Lake State Park in Caryville last week.
    The Lady Waves finished sixth with 138 points behind Knoxville Ambassadors (28), while the Green Wave took ninth with 259 points behind Knoxville Ambassadors (55).

  • Tumminello leads Oliver Springs...

    Oliver Springs running back Joe Tumminello put on a show Friday night. The Bobcat senior rushed for 296 yards and 5 touchdowns in leading his team to a 42-29 Region 2-2A victory at Tellico Plains.
    “It was because of our offensive line,” Tumminello said. “Levi Lamance, Daniel Giles, Brady Webb, Lucas Daugherty, Joe Huckabey and Jordan Haney all did a great job. We kind of started slow in the first quarter, but in the second quarter and second half, our line just dominated.”

  • Lady Tigers finish second in...

    University of Arkansas signee Allie Dunn scored two goals and had one assist to lead the Grace Christian Academy Lady Rams to a 5-1 victory over the Rockwood Lady Tigers to claim the District 3A/AA soccer championship Thursday night at GCA.
    Other scorers for Grace Christian were Sara Houff (one goal, one assist), Lauren Lewis (one goal, one assist) and Sierra Brown (one goal).

  • Green Wave plays hard in loss to...

    The Midway Green Waves never flinched and they played hard to the final horn but they still were taken down by a pretty good football team last Friday night at home losing to Greenback 48-12.
    Despite some rough moments the Cherokees looked every bit the state runner up last season and they look to be headed deep into the playoffs again this year. Greenback more than doubled Midway in total yards, 502-243, and scored at least one touchdown in every quarter.

  • Austin-East shuts out Rockwood...

    Darius Harper completed 13-of-17 passes for 244 yards with two touchdowns to the lead the Austin-East Roadrunners to a 40-0 victory over the Rockwood Tigers in a Region 2-2A game Friday on Civitan Field at Tom Pemberton Stadium.
    Six different players caught at least one pass, including four to Kashif Warren for 102 yards and four to Shannon Cozart for 58 yards. Rico Johnson had a 64-yard touchdown strike.

  • Tornadoes blow past Yellow...

    The Kingston Yellow Jackets' quest for a second-straight appearance in the Class 3A playoffs ended Friday, as they were defeated 52-3 by the Alcoa Tornadoes to fall to 0-4 in the Region 2-3A and 3-6 overall.
    Malik Salter scored Alcoa's first TD on a 6-yard run to cap a 59-yard, 7-play drive. Ben Smith's PAT made it 7-0.
    Gabe Shillings' 51-yard field goal capped a 46-yard, 12 play drive to slice the gap to 7-3 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.
