  • Chism throws out first pitch at...

    The Rockwood Dixie Youth Opening Day ceremony featured an east Tennessee legend on April 2,  as former Tennessee Volunteer Wayne Chism was in attendance to throw out the first pitch.

    Rockwood Parks and Recreation Director Chase Clem used Twitter to reach out to Chism, who responded.

    “It was a friendly tweet. It was great for him to reach out to me, and great to accept it. Everybody could see it and get excited to come out here today” said Chism.

  • Rockwood defeats Region 2A foe...

    The Rockwood Tiger baseball team defeated Oneida Thursday night 20-3 to sweep the season series with their Region 2A foe at Mike "Brillo" Miller Sports Complex.

    Kolby Robbins was credited with the victory, allowing three runs on two hits  with five walks and three hit batters in the 2 2/3 innings, while Kyle Van Patton worked 1 1/3 innings, striking out two with one walk and Will Warner pitched one inning with two strikeouts and one walk.

    Rockwood plated the 20 runs on nine hits with 14 walks.

  • Denny’s RBI single gives Lady...

    Breanna Denny's RBI single in the top of the seventh inning gave the Rockwood Lady Tigers a 1-0 victory over the Harriman Lady Devils Thursday evening at Flour Mill Flats in Harriman.

    Megan Monday singled and moved from second to third on error and scored the go-ahead run on Breanna Denny's single. Sister, Courtney, retired Harriman in the bottom of the inning to earn in the victory for the Lady Tigers.

    Courtney Denny was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts.

  • Kingston track team competed at...

    The Kingston High School track team competed in a meet at Anderson County High School in Clinton April 5 and will compete at Knox Karns Tuesday afternoon.

    Bri Garcia finished 12th in the 100 meters in 14.67.

    Lindsay Wall finished seventh in the 200 meters in 31.24, followed by Garcia, 11th, 32.40; and Courtney Farrell, 14th in 33.29.

    Sarah Cox took sixth in the 400 meters in 1:14.35 and took fourth in the 800 meters, followed by Mandy King, seventh, 3:28.72 and Zoe Magnum, ninth, 3:29.57.

  • HHS soccer team is off to 1-3-1...

    The Harriman Blue Devils soccer team are 1-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the district, after last Monday's 1-1 tie with district foe Union County.

    Harriman opened the season with a 10-1 loss to Gatlnburg-Pittman, followed by a 3-0 setback to Oneida and a 2-1 win over Austin-East. They suffered a 7-1 loss to Concord Christian, followed by the tie with Union County.

    "I would like to thank Johnny Jones, Tom Tilley and the administration for being wonderful in the transition," said Dallas Davis, new Harriman Lady Devil basketball coach.

    "We feel grateful to find someone like Dallas as our girls basketball coach. He will be a great asset with his experience he brings to the basketball program," said Harriman athletic director Bobby Clark.

    The National Interescholastic Athletic Adminstrators Association (NIAAA) announced last week that Tony Clower, county athletic director for the Roane County Schools, has been recognized as a certified athletic administrator.

  • Kingston calms Alcoa Tornadoes...

    Tony Curry's two-hit, 13-0  shutout gave the Kingston Yellow Jackets a split in their District 4AA series with Alcoa Tuesday evening at Legion Field at Southwest Point.

    Curry allowed two hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the victory for the Yellow Jackets and helped his own cause by smashing a double and two singles with one RBI.

    Dakota Henry singled twice, followed by Cody Mitchell single and doubled with one RBI; Noah Cash singled twice with two RBIs and Matt Spellman singled and doubled with three RBIs.

  • Rockwood, Harriman tennis teams...

    The Rockwood High School tennis and soccer teams were both in action, with the tennis teams splitting  a pair of matches with Harriman Monday afternoon at Roane State Community College. The Lady Tigers remained unbeaten at 5-0 with a 9-0 victory over the Lady Devils, while the Tigers fell to 1-4 with an 8-1 loss to the Blue Devils.
    The Rockwood/Midway soccer team was victorious, beating Austin-East 3-0 Tuesday at Mike "Brillo" Miller Sports Complex.

  • Rockwood sweeps Harriman...

    Harriman hosted  the Tigers of Rockwood on Tuesday to end their season series, as the Tigers won 12-1, after posting a 12-4 victory Monday at Rockwood.

    Hunter Etwell started on the hill for Harriman and sat down the first hitter. Dalton Monroe singled to right to get the Tigers started. Atwell picked off Monroe and then retired the next hitter to fly out to right fielder Makail Moore on a great catch to end the inning.
