Rockwood and Oliver Springs get some conditioning in during a recent 7-on-7 passing scrimmage. High school football teams have been able to practice in helmets and shorts throughout July, but that all changes Monday when teams are able to practice in full gear. Area coaches are worried, however, that cooler than normal temperatures could hurt conditioning if the weather heats up in August.
Area coaches hoping for hotter weather

 

The weather in July has been unseasonably cool. Some days have felt more like October than the middle of summer.

While most people have enjoyed the cooler, less humid weather, area high school football coaches are worried this will actually hurt their teams as they prepare for season opening games, most coming on Friday, Aug. 22.
