Blue Devils battle Bulldogs

The Harriman Lady Blue Devils had more boards than Lumber Liquidators Friday night, tallying 54 rebounds in a 63-60 nail-biter over the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs.

Harriman took an early 15-13 lead to start the game, but the Lady 'Dawgs took back the lead going to the locker room with the score at 29-26 at halftime, 

Harriman, however, used a 15-4 tilt at one stretch of the third period to take a 45-36 lead going into the final stanza. 

Harriman led at one point 60-48 in the final period, but Wartburg used a 12-3 run down the stretch to pull within 63-60. A last second shot to tie the game fell short and the Lady Devils got the 63-60 win.

Wartburg had a 21-5 tilt in team steals but Harriman had the 54-21 edge in rebounding. 

Lindsey Higgins (20 points, 9 boards) and Cree Moore (15 points, 16 boards) proved to be a formidable tag team for the Lady Devils. 

Jadah Gallaher (10 points, 8 boards, 7 assists), Courtney Thomas (7 points, 9 boards) and Olyvia Lunsford (7 points, 5 boards) also played well in the victory. 

Wartburg was led by Sarah Davidson (13 points, 5 boards), Kellie Kidd (12 points, 6 assists), Destiney Massengale (9 points), Alyssa Adkisson (8 points) and Kristie Phillips (7 points) were the leading scorers while Ashley McPeters (8 steals) also had a strong showing in the loss.

Boys Game

In a game that saw 61 total team fouls and plenty of physicality, it was the Wartburg Central Bulldogs emerging victorious with an 81-67 triumph over the Harriman Blue Devils. 

Wartburg used a 15-5 run in the opening period to take a 22-10 lead at the end of the opening period. The Bulldogs then increased their lead to 44-28 at halftime. 

Harriman, however, used a 13-3 run in the third period to help pull them to within four points of the Bulldogs with the score at 52-48. 

But in a crazy final period where Austin White, Dimitrique Inman, and Darius Gallaher fouled out for Harriman while Alex Fountain and Zach Shannon fouled out for Wartburg, the Bulldogs used an 11-4 run to give them the 81-67 win.

Wartburg had a 38-31 edge on the boards while Harriman had a 13-12 tilt in team steals. Wartburg also used a 6-2 advantage in three-point shooting to help lift them to the win. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Cody Goodman (18 points, 5 boards) and Alex Fountain (16 points, 6 boards). 

Zach Shannon (10 points), Brad Richardson (8 points), Jordan Hamby (6 points), Brandon Justes (6 points, 6 assists, 5 boards), and Brett Robinson (6 points) also paced the 'Dawgs in scoring. 

Harriman was led by Xavier Howard (23 points, 6 assists, 5 steals), Dimitrique Inman (22 points, 10 boards), and Darius Gallaher (10 points, 6 assists). 

Shaquille Love (7 boards) also played well in the loss.
