Bobcats lose lead late against Wartburg

The Oliver Springs Bobcats lost the lead late in a 10-7 defeat to Wartburg Central Tuesday in the double-elimination District 3 Baseball Tournament in Wartburg.

The game was tied at seven with Wartburg Central batting in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Davis grounded out, scoring one run to break the tie, 8-7.

The Bulldogs scored twice more in the sixth inning for insurance.

Oliver Springs collected eight hits and Wartburg Central had ten in the high-scoring affair.

The Bobcats got things started in the first inning when Matthew Armstrong doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Wartburg Central scored four runs in the fourth inning.

The offensive firepower from the Bulldogs was led by Caleb Constant, Jeremiah Davis and Trevor Hill, all driving in runs in the inning.

Davis got the start for Wartburg.

He surrendered five runs on four hits over four innings, striking out three.

On the mound for Oliver Springs was Ryan Jones.

Jones surrendered 10 runs on 10 hits over the course of six innings while striking out six and walking one.

Armstrong and Trey Boswell all managed multiple hits for the Bobcats.

Boswell and Armstrong each collected two hits to lead Oliver Springs.

Davis Wartburg Central with three hits in four at bats.

With the outcome of the game, the Bobcats will move on to the next round where they will face Roane County rival Harriman where the loser will be eliminated from the post season and the winner will move on to face the Bulldogs in the district title game.
