Bulldogs bite Bobcats

Turnovers down the stretch led to the unraveling of the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats Saturday afternoon as they gave up a late 51-45 lead to wind up with a 57-53 loss to the Wartburg Lady Bulldogs.

Oliver Springs used a 14-4 run at one stretch of the opening period to give them a 14-8 lead early on. 

The Lady Bulldogs, however, used a 6-0 tilt at one point of the second period to make the score 26-26 at halftime.

A 7-0 stretch by Oliver Springs in the third period extended the lead to 38-33. 

Oliver Springs built a six-point lead in the final period, but a 12-2 run down the stretch along with costly turnovers would give the Lady Bulldogs a 57-53 victory.

Oliver Springs had a 30-29 edge on the boards and both teams had 11 steals.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Sarah Davidson (13 points, 7 boards), Kellie Kidd (9 points, 5 boards), Haley Hurtt (8 points), Madison Laughter (7 points, 7 boards), and Alyssa Adkisson (6 points).

Oliver Springs was paced on offense by Katie Harvey (13 points), Alix Giles (8 points), Macy Martin (8 points, 11 boards), Leigha Carter (8 points), and Kellie Ball (7 points, 5 steals, 5 assists). 

Maleah Murray (6 boards) also played well in the loss.

Boys Game

All the Wartburg Bulldogs needed was a dominant first half to cruise to a 65-46 win over the Oliver Springs Bobcats Saturday afternoon. 

Wartburg used runs of 10-3 and 9-4 to take a 19-7 lead at the end of the first period. 

The Bulldogs used a 21-5 surge at one point in period number two to take a commanding 45-16 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs stretched the lead to 58-25 at the end of the third period, thanks to a 6-0 run. 

Oliver Springs would make things respectable down the stretch with a 16-5 outburst at one stretch to get the final score to 65-46. 

Wartburg owned a 44-38 edge on the boards and both teams had 12 steals.

Wartburg was led on offense by Zach Shannon (15 points, 7 boards), and Brad Richardson (12 points, 5 boards). 

Also playing pivotal roles in the Bulldog win was Alex Fountain (7 points, 5 boards), Austin Langley (7 points), Jordan Hamby (6 points), and Zeke Goodman (6 points). 

Zach Moore and Cody Goodman each had six boards in the win. 

Oliver Springs was led by Jordan Romero (11 points), and Michael Taylor (9 points).

Matt Henley (16 boards) and Brady Sweet (6 boards) each played well in the loss.
