Monday night was a good night for the Harriman Blue Devils and Lady Devils as both squads traveled to Greenback and picked up a pair of District 3-A wins over the Cherokees.

The Lady Devils took the floor first and put together a solid performance in picking up a 53-40 victory.

The boys game looked like a Blue Devils blowout early, but in the end Harriman had to come-from-behind to knock off the Cherokees, 50-48.

Harriman returns to action Friday when they host Greenback at home.

Girls Game

The Lady Devils led throughout much of Monday’s contest against the Lady Cherokees.

Harriman started strong as Olyvia Lunsford scored five points and Jadah Gallaher added four in giving the Lady Devils a 14-8 lead after eight minutes of play.

Harriman, however, had trouble keeping the pace in the second period as Greenback won the frame 12-11 to cut Harriman’s lead to 25-20 at halftime.

The inside duo of Lindsey Higgins and Cree Moore scored nine of Harriman’s 11 points in the second quarter.

The third quarter proved to be the Olyvia Lunsford show for the Lady Devils. Lunsford buried three triples and scored 13 points in the frame as Harriman took a 40-32 lead into the final period of play.

The final quarter would see Harriman pull away to the 53-40 victory.

Lunsford led all scorers on the night as she pumped in 23 total points.

Samantha McCollum paced the Lady Cherokees with 15 points.

Harriman (53) Gallaher 7, Higgins 9, Lunsford 23, Moore 6, Goins 6, Boyd 2.

Boys Game

The Blue Devils scored the first 17 points of Monday’s game, but it was the last two that were the most important as Dimitrique Inman’s jumper from inside the lane with eight seconds left gave Harriman a 50-48 victory over the Cherokees.

Inman also played a big role in Harriman’s quick start as Inman and Ben Davis scored six points each in the first quarter.

Despite opening the game on a 17-0 run, Harriman couldn’t shake the Cherokees. Greenback scored the final six points of the first period and then the Cherokees outscored Harriman 10-5 in the second period to pull within 22-16 at halftime.

Greenback stayed on the offensive as they outscored Harriman 21-12 in the third period to take a 37-34 lead after three periods of play.

Chris Sabo had a huge third quarter for Greenback, scoring 12 points.

The fourth quarter was close throughout and with 55.8 seconds left it was Sabo that hit a pair of free throws that tied the score at 48-48.

At that point, Greenback elected to sit back and let Harriman hold the ball for the last shot. The strategy didn’t wok as Darius Gallaher dished the ball to Inman who scored the game-winner with eight seconds left to play.

Greenback still had one last shot at victory, but Sabo’s last-second three-pointer was off the mark.

Inman led Harriman on the night with 22 points, 12 coming in the fourth quarter. Howard was next in line with 13.

Sabo paced the Cherokees with 21 points while Tyler Bryant added 15.

 Harriman (50) Gallaher 5, Inman 22, Howard 13, White 2, Davis 8.
