With their season on the line, the Cherokee Yellow Jackets stayed alive in the Area 4 AAA Tournament Thursday evening with a 42-32 victory over Sweetwater.

Balance was the name of the game for Cherokee as the Jackets scored nine or more points in each of the four periods of play.

Cherokee opened the game with 10 points in the first period. Brandon Donathan led the way with four points while Tyler Thompson added a three-pointer.

The second and third periods would see the Jackets add nine points to their tally in each frame. Preston Edmonds was Cherokee’s big gun in the middle periods, scoring seven points.

Unlike their meeting earlier this month, Cherokee would not falter in the final period. Instead the Jackets put the game away with 14 points. Donathan led the way in the final period with six of his team-high 13 points.

With the victory, Cherokee advanced to take on Cleveland in Friday’s semifinals.

 Cherokee (42) Donathan 13, Thompson 7, Hughes 2, Edmonds 8, Sterling 1, Anderson 4, Adcock 7.
