Keeping you connected: Visit Roane? There's an app for that

The Roane County Visitors Bureau is introducing a new mobile app – Visit Roane County TN.

The app, available now for the iPhone and iPad on Apple’s app store, provides visitors “their own private tour guide 24/7,” said Pam May, director of tourism for The Roane Alliance.

“By downloading the free app, a visitor — and even locals — will learn what to do, where to eat and where to stay while here,” she said.

“It also provides directions from the user’s location, as well as details about the location and other contact information – phone, website, even their Facebook page link, if available.”

The app – which should soon be available for Android phones as well – can be downloaded from the Apple app store or directly onto an iPhone or iPad by searching for “Visit Roane.”

“I am excited about this app,” said Paul Cowell, co-chairman of the Roane County Chamber of Commerce’s tourism committee. “It puts Roane County ahead of the game.”

Cowell, who owns Whitestone Country Inn, sees how the app can help area visitors and provide a boon to Roane County businesses.

“With more people going to their phones to get information, this app is just what my customers need to make their visit even better,” he said.

Officials, too, are pleased with what the app can offer tourists and residents alike.

“This app is great for our county in terms of giving visitors an idea of things to do,” said Harriman Mayor Chris Mason.

“Roane County has a lot to offer in terms of dining and recreation, but it is hard to get the word out,” Mason continued.

“It will even benefit residents of Roane County – you may learn something that you didn’t know,” he added.
