Kingston picks up TVL sweep

For the third consecutive week, the Kingston Optimist Club football program swept three all three games of the Tennessee Valley League. However, even with the sweep of Rockwood, Kingston still trails Oak Ridge West in two of the division standings. Oak Ridge had an even bigger weekend when they swept Harriman in three games and then swept Oak Ridge East Tuesday night in a make up game from a rain out three weeks ago.

The standings headed into the final weeks of the season shows Oak Ridge West and Kingston tied atop the cricket standings. Oak Ridge West leads in the hopper and cutter divisions with Kingston and Harriman in a battle for second in the hopper age group and Kingston moving up to second in the cutter division.

Rockwood at Kingston

The Kingston crickets began the sweep with a 28-0 win over Rockwood. Kingston grabbed a 22-0 lead by halftime got the early ending with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Carson Basler began the scoring with a 41-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. 

Kingston got in some passing practice for their next two touchdowns. Quarterback Dawson Phillips hit Javarie Ashford with a 56-yard pass for the second touchdown also in the first quarter. 

Victor Alford ran in the two point conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Before halftime, Phillips hit Boogie Eddie with a 48-yard touchdown strike. Phillips added the two-point run for a 22-0 lead.  

Kingston got the early ending when Basler scored from 48 yards out early in the fourth quarter.

The Kingston hoppers pitched the second shutout of the day winning 20-0 over Rockwood.

Bradley Keathley and Trey Schultz took care of all the scoring for the Yellow Jackets in the win. Keathley scored on a 24-yard run in the first quarter and Schultz added the two-point conversion.

Keathley scored on a 25-yard run in the second quarter to give Kingston a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Keathley and Schultz hooked up on a 35-yard scoring toss in the fourth quarter to get the 20-0 win.

Rockwood scored first in the cutter match up, but couldn't hold on when Kingston rallied for a 16-6 win.

Dylan Williams scored on a two-yard run early in the game to put the Rams up 6-0.

Kingston rallied quickly and scored on a 33-yard run from Nathan Jones later in the first quarter. Brandon Plemons added the two-point conversion for an 8-6 lead.

The game turned defensive after the early touchdowns. However, Kingston finally got control when Plemons scored on a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter. Jones added the two-point conversion to give the Jackets a 16-6 win.

Oak Ridge at Harriman

Harriman had no luck against Oak Ridge West last Saturday. Oak Ridge rolled to three wins, 26-0 in the crickets, 32-6 in the hopper division, and 30-6 in the cutter division. 

Johnny Cheers scored the only Blue Devil touchdown in the hopper game. Sheldon Anderson scored for the Harriman cutters.
