Lady 'Cats pick up holiday split

The 2010 Oliver Springs Thanksgiving Classic ended with mixed results over the weekend for the Oliver Springs Lady 'Cats as Michelle Christopher's squad split a pair of games with Clinton and Oak Ridge.

On Friday, the Lady Dragons proved no contest for the Lady 'Cats as Oliver Springs cruised to a 42-20 victory. Saturday, however, was a different story as Oak Ridge rolled to a 55-19 victory.

Oliver Springs plays Kingston Thursday before traveling to Sunbright Friday for their first District 4-A contest of the year.

Friday's Game

The Lady 'Cats jumped out to a comfortable lead early and never looked back as they kicked off the Thanksgiving weekend with a win.

Oliver Springs started strong as Sarah Davis, Leigha Carter and Maleah Murray scored four points each in leading the Lady 'Cats a 14-7 lea after eight minutes of play. 

The scoring slowed somewhat in the second and third periods, but the Lady 'Cats still outscored Clinton 18-13 in the middle periods to take a 32-20 lead in the final period of play.

Oliver Springs pitched a shutout in the final period as they added to points to their lead.

Davis led Oliver Springs on the night with 10 points while Murray added eight.

Jasmine Fuqua led the way for Clinton with eight points.

Saturday's Game

Saturday's contest was a nightmare for the Lady 'Cats as Oak Ridge scored the first 20 points of the game on their way to a 55-16 victory.

The Lady Wildcats would lead 20-2 after eight minutes of play, 34-11 at halftime and 50-15 after three quarters before settling for the 55-19 victory.

Alex Giles led Oliver Springs in the loss with six points while Kellie Ball dished out four assists.
