A Midway High School senior was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon for allegedly threatening to "shoot up the school."

A Roane County Sheriff's Office report identified the 18-year-old as Houston Knight of 935 Laurel Bluff Road, Kingston.

A joint statement released by Sheriff Jack Stockton and District Attorney General Russell Johnson said Knight was arrested "in connection with an online posting allegedly making a false report of a threat" to the high school in the South of the River area of Roane County.

Sheriff's Detective Art Wolff's report said Oak Ridge Police Department originally received the tip about an online conversation on a social media app. Screenshots of the conversation were sent to Oak Ridge police, who determined the internet provider address was in Roane County.

Sheriff's officials confirmed late last week an investigation involving Midway High School was underway. No further details were given at the time. A parent told the Roane County News the investigation centered around a shooting threat.

Knight was in custody at the Roane County Jail as of late Thursday afternoon. No bond had been set at that time. Stockton and Johnson said Knight's initial court appearance will be a jail-only docket on Feb. 24.

More details on this developing story will be available in Monday's issue of the Roane County News and at RoaneCounty.com.
