MMS blasts Norwood

The Midway Middle School Green Waves and Lady Waves picked up a pair of easy wins Tuesday night against Norwood.

The Lady Waves took the floor first and cruised to a 50-23 victory then the boys took the floor and ended the evening with a 63-19 trouncing of the Jaguars.

Girls Game

The game was tied at 2-2 early, but before the opening period ended the Lady Waves held a 25-5 lead and the rest was history.

Abby Bertram (10 points) and Alexis Taylor (9 points) both had a big first quarter for Midway.

Midway head coach Shannon Cawood called the dogs of early, but the Lady Waves still added 12 points to their lead at halftime (42-10)

The Lady Waves played everybody on the roster in the second half and that allowed Norwood to keep the game relatively close. The Lady Jaguars won the second half by five points, 13-8, and that closed the final margin of victory to 27 points.

Bertram (12 points, 3 steals) and Taylor (11 points, 4 steals) were Midway’s leading scorers on the evening.

Boys Game

About the only thing that went wrong for Midway in Tuesday’s 44-point victory was they failed to convert on an alley-oop to Jacob Cawood to open the game.

Besides that, it was no contest as Midway jumped out to a 23-4 lead after one period of play and a 43-11 lead at halftime.

Cawood led all scorers in the first half with 12 points while Cameron Hashmi added seven.

Midway’s starters didn’t play at all in the second half, but it didn’t matter as the Green Wave reserves added 12 points to the final margin of victory.

In all, 16 players scored for Midway on the night with Cawood’s 12 points leading the way.
