OS caps perfect district season

The Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats ran their District 4-A record to 12-0 Thursday afternoon with an 8-0 victory over Oneida at Arrowhead Park.

Thursday’s victory put an exclamation point on what was a dominating season for the Lady ’Cats. The shutout was Oliver Springs’ eighth in 12 district contests and the Lady ’Cats have outscored their opponents 152-4 in those 12 games.

Lady ’Cat pitcher Courtney Jones had another great outing as she tossed a two-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts past the Lady Indians. Jones ran into trouble only once when Oneida loaded the bases in the top of the third inning.

Oliver Springs took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Emily Griffith and Chelsey Roy opened the game with back-to-back singles and scored on wild pitches. Hope Jenkins also had a hit for the Lady ’Cats in the inning.

The Lady ’Cats scored two more runs in the fourth inning.

Breanna Phillips (single), Tiffany Roberts (walk) and Deandra Scott (single) all reached safely to load the bases then Emily Griffith drove in Phillips and Roberts with a double.

Oliver Springs put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Scott, Emily Griffith, Roy and Jones scored the runs in the frame with doubles from Jones and Rachel Griffith being the big hits of the inning.

Emily Griffith (2-3, 2B, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Rachel Griffith (2-4, 2B, 1 RBI), and Deandra Scott (2-3, 1 run) all had multiple hits for Oliver Springs on the day. 

The Lady ’Cats start District 4-A Tournament play Monday at Oneida.
