Midway’s Emmy Taylor scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had 6 steals to lead her team to a 49-20 victory over the Lady Bobcats of Oliver Springs on Monday evening.

The Lady Green Waves came out with an aggressive full court press that stunned OS and forced numerous turnovers. Taylor and teammate Stella Tilley combined for 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals in the first frame to take the early 12-3 lead.

“We did not respond well to their aggressive defensive pressure” said OS coach Allison Payne.

Things went from bad to worse in the second for the Lady Cats as Macy Young, Sara Beth Nickell and Sydney Queener joined in on the scoring spree.

Taylor once again dominated and stole the show with seven more points along with three boards and three steals.

OS struggled on the offensive end but Megan Armstrong and Savannah Ray kept them from being shut out as Midway led at the half 34-6.

“I could not be more proud of our kids effort tonight, we capitalized on the little things and are starting to understand that those little things make a huge difference in the game” stated Midway coach Cara Reed.

The Lady Cats picked up the pace in the third as Madi Jones owned the boards with five rebounds as her team outscores the Lady Waves 8-7. Armstrong, Jones, Lydia Snyder and Taylor Jones put points on the board to make the score after three 41-14.

The final frame was evenly matched as O.S.’s Natalie Elliot scored two and Marissa Stakely came up with three steals for the Lady Waves as the game ended with Midway getting the win by a final score of 49-20.

Payne recognizes that her team must leave this game on the floor and look forward to the next game stating, “We will just have to be stronger with the ball and play smarter as a team”.

In boy’s action, the Bobcats had a solid team effort to defeat Midway by a final score of 36-25.

OS took the first quarter lead 6-5 with Landon Galyon and Brady Jackson’s baskets but Midway owned the boards by outrebounding the Cats 10-4 as Devon Maxwell and Seth Gordon had three each.

The Bobcat defense held their own in the second frame as Galyon grabbed four defensive rebounds and Trevor Moore came off the bench and hit a couple of treys to spark the offense. Emmitt Hegland added four points and a steal to keep it close going into the locker room at 14-10.

“We had two starters down and Galyon was sick so tonight, it was one of those nights where we needed guys to step up and they did, we needed this game and we had to have a gut check”, stated Coach Lance Jones.

In the third, Midway scored six unanswered to take the lead with Gordon, Maxwell and Hegland scoring baskets. The Cats stepped up the pressure with four steals and took a nine point lead at 28-19 as the quarter ended.

The Bobcats used the clock to their advantage in the fourth to slow the game down and was able to hold off the Green Waves to take the win by a final score of 36-24.

“We didn’t play up to the standards that I have for this team, I expect more effort that we played with tonight. OS shot the ball well and made it difficult for us to get back in the game”, stated Midway Coach Justin O’Toole.
