Painful soring still common practice for horse owners

-A A +A

Soring of Tennessee Walking Horses has been going on for over 70 years.

Soring is the practice of treating the horse’s hooves with caustic chemicals; placing tacks or other sharp objects in the tender part of the hoof; and pressure shoeing, which forces the sensitive sole of the hoof to come in contact with the metal of the shoe.

Thick platforms fastened to the hooves that cause the horse to stand perpetually in an unnatural elevated position, and heavy chains around the ankles, are also used.
