Six days after picking up a big victory at Walters State, Randy Nesbit’s Roane State Raiders ran into a hot shooting group of Eagles from Dyersburg State and the result was a 73-68 loss.

The Eagles shot a blistering 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc as they connected on 13 of their 26 attempts.

Dyersburg State’s Marcus Etheridge buried two three-pointers and scored 12 points in the first half as the Eagles took a 36-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Quint Clinkscales had a big first half for the Raiders as he buried a pair of three-pointers on his way to 10 points.

The second half would see Dyersburg State putting on a show from downtown. The Eagles buried eight three-pointers in the second half alone and that kind of shooting display was a little more than the Raiders could overcome.

George Coleman buried three triples and scored 15 points in the second half for Dyersburg State while B.J. Mashill added three more triples and 11 points.

Kinard Gadsen-Gilliard tried to keep the Raiders close as he scored 11 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

Dyersburg State’s Coleman led all scorers on the night with 19 points while Mashill (18 points) and Etheridge (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Eagles.

Clinkscales paced the Raiders with 17 points while Gadsen-Gilliard and Jerrod Allen scored 11 each. Allen and Bradley Reid led the Raiders with 12 rebounds each.

The loss dropped Roane State’s conference record to 1-1. Roane State would suffer their second conference loss on Saturday as the Raiders dropped a 103-89 decision at Southwest Tennessee.

The Raiders will take this weekend off due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Roane State returns to action next weekend with a pair of conference games at home. The Raiders host Jackson State next Friday, Dec. 3 before taking on Columbia State on Saturday, Dec. 4.

 Roane State (68) Smith 5, Kalpic 3, Maybank 4, Gadsen-Gilliard 11, Clow 4, Pettway 7, Clinkscales 17, Allen 11, Mixer 1, Reid 4.
