RMS caps perfect regular season

It wasn’t easy, but the Rockwood Middle School Tigers closed out a 14-0 regular season Tuesday night with a come-from-behind 47-43 victory at Midway. 

Tuesday’s victory was the second close call of the season against the Green Waves as Rockwood had to come from behind earlier this season for a 42-38 victory against Midway at home.

Early on Tuesday it appeared as the Green Waves would erase their only loss of the season as they raced out to a 17-5 lead after six minutes of play.

Jacob Cawood led Midway’s early charge with nine points while Jason Gaus added six. 

Rockwood played better in the second period, but still trailed 29-19 at halftime.

Rockwood finally started to find their groove in the third period as they outscored Midway 15-9 to pull within 38-34 with one quarter left to play.

Drake Long led Rockwood in the third period with seven points.

The fourth period belonged to the Tigers as Rockwood used eight points from Colby Turner to put the finishing touches on their comeback victory.

Long scored 17 points and Turner added 16 to lead the way for the Tigers. 

Gaus scored 15 to lead the way for Midway.

Girls Game

The first game of the night wasn’t as dramatic, but it was still close as Rockwood picked up a 32-23 victory.

Rockwood took a 9-4 lead after one period of play and made that lead hold up for the rest of the night. 

Baylee Young scored five points to lead Rockwood in the opening quarter.

The second quarter was played to a near draw as Rockwood outscored the Lady Waves 7-6 to take a 16-10 lead at halftime.

Carson Evans scored all seven points for the Lady Tigers in the second period.

The third period was played to a 6-6 tie, leaving the score 22-16 in favor of Rockwood heading into the final period of play.

Rockwood added three points to their lead in the final period as they left Midway with the nine point victory.

Evans led Rockwood on the night with 13 points while Young added nine.

Racheal Tuttle’s eight points paced Midway.
