In a much ballyhooed encounter between the unbeaten Sunbright Tigers and the unbeaten Rockwood Middle School Tigers, it was Rockwood getting a decisive 40-0 blowout victory.

Rockwood would threaten to score early on, but fumbled the ball and Sunbright recovered in the end zone.

Sunbright was unable to attain a first down and punted to Rockwood, who got to the Sunbright 27 yard line before the end of the first quarter with the score tied at 0-0.

Then, the proverbial offensive flood gates opened, when Kyron Inman capped off a six-play, 50-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run.

Logan Abbott ran in the two-point conversion, making the score 8-0 with 7:14 to go in the half.

Rockwood got their next score on a three-play, 60-yard drive, capped off with a 32-yard scamper by Inman with Brant Mitchell punching in the two-point conversion to make the score 16-0 with 3:48 left in the first half.

Rockwood’s defense set up their next score.

Following an Abbott interception, it took Rockwood four plays to cover 35 yards and score again when Inman was off to the races on a 14-yard dash to the end zone.

Abbott plowed in the two-point play to make the score 24-0 at halftime.

Rockwood would score again with 1:29 left in the third quarter on an Inman sweep to the right side and then doing his best Usain Bolt impression by speeding past the Sunbright defenders for another Tigers touchdown, his fourth of the evening.

Mitchell drilled in the two-point conversion, making the score 32-0.

Eighteen seconds later, following a Sunbright turnover, it was Mitchell deciding he wanted in on the scoring action with a 31-yard touchdown blast.

The two-point play was good, making the score 40-0, which is how the game would end.

The stats of this game tell how dominating the game was for Rockwood. The Tigers out gained Sunbright 341-20 on the ground and despite not completing a pass, out-gained Sunbright through the air 0- -2, making the final yard tally 341-18.

Inman (12-219-4 TDs) had a breakout performance for Rockwood, Brant Mitchell (4-48-1 TD) and Abbott (4-44) also led Rockwood in rushing while Mitchell (5 tackles) and Dallas Strader (4 tackles, 1 FR) led Rockwood on defense.

Sunbright was led on defense by Skyler Bunch with 6 tackles.

Next up for the Tigers of Rockwood is a showdown with the Robertsville Rams.
