Tuesday night marked a special night at Tom Evans Gymnasium, as the Rockwood Tigersplayed their last regular season home game of the year.

The seniors for both teams got to make this night special as they both came out with victories over the Greenback Cherokees.

The Lady Tigers had to fight pretty hard for their 42-37 victory while the boys had a little easier time in cruising to a 53-15 win.

Girls Game

The Lady Tigers came out with a victory Tuesday, but the whole game was not smooth sailing for them. The Lady Tigers did start strong and they also finished strong with is the key to victory most of the time.

The Lady Tigers went on a 10-0 run to start the game and went into the second period of play with a 12-5 lead.

Chelsea Cheek led the Lady Tigers in the first period with four points.

The second period of play also showed the Lady Tigers having a tight grip on their lead as they didn't seem to want to let it go. The Lady Tigers went into halftime with a 22-11 lead.

The third period is when things started to get interesting. The Lady Tigers did not score in the period until McKenzie Lee got fouled with no time left on the clock and hit one free throw. Consequently, the Lady Tigers lost their lead and were down 24-23 going into the final period.

Cheek had six fourth period points, but those points were right when the team needed them as she came out of the gate and gave the Lady Tigers the little spark they needed. After a Cheek basket, with 5:07 left in the game the Lady Tigers were ahead 30-28.

The lead wasn't held onto long as the Lady Cherokees grabbed the lead right back at 33-31 with 3:30 left in the game. Jade Napier tied the game up at 34 with a pair of free throws.

Rockwood then took the lead for good. With 1:10 left in the game Lee hit a huge shot and took the lead 36-34. With help on the free-throw line from Napier and Sam Freels, Lee's shot kept the Tigers on top for the rest of the game as they picked up a 42-37 win.

Napier led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 12 points while Chelsea Cheek was right behind with 11.

Rockwood (42) Lee 6, Napier 12, Cheek 11, Freels 6, Evans 2, Farmer 5.

Boys Game

Rockwood’s boys had a much easier time with the Cherokees as they rolled to a 53-15 victory.

Rockwood's defense was their strong point as they only gave up four first half points.

Rockwood led 14-2 after one period of play and the Tigers expanded that run to a 27-2 run with 3:43 remaining in the second period, which forced a Greenback time out. The time out didn't help much as they only mustered up two more points as the Tigers had a 33-4 lead going into the third period.

Jay Tilley had nine points for the Tigers in the first half

The Tigers kept the pedal to the metal as they were ahead 37-4 with 5;04 remaining in the third. The Tigers put on 10 more points in the period as the Cherokees only put up six more as the Tigers had a 47-10 lead going into the final period of play.
